Deleting all pictures on the memory card -

2. Open the relevant viewfinder/monitor screen and
follow the further menu instructions.
• In the viewfinder/monitor the sub-menu for
deleting several pictures simultaneously appears,
then recording goes out in the background, the
viewfinder/monitor screen goes blue and
PLEASE
WAIT... appears briefly while the is being
being deleted.
Then NO VALID IMAGES TO PLAY or the original
picture appears again, if it has not been deleted
after all, as well as the normal displays for the
review mode.
However, if the pictures included some with
protection (see also next section), PROTECTED
PICTURES REMAIN UNDELETED appears for a
short time instead, and finally the first of these
pictures and the normal displays for review mode
reappear.

PROTECT
The pictures saved on the memory card can be pro-
tected against being accidentally deleted.
Notes:
•Even protected pictures are deleted when format-
ting the memory card (see also next section).
• If you attempt to delete protected pictures, warning
messages appear in the viewfinder/monitor. When
deleting single pictures: THIS PICTURE IS
PROTECTED, when deleting several or all pictures:
PROTECTED PICTURES REMAIN UNDELETED. If
you still want to delete them, remove the protection
as described below.
•Protection is only effective on this camera.
•With SD memory cards you can prevent accidental
deletion by sliding the card’s write protection
switch (see p. 119) to the position marked LOCK.
•Protected pictures cannot subsequently be given
sound recordings (see p. 165).
Setting the function
1. In the main review menu

(see pp. 113/122) select the menu item

PROTECT (3.26).
2. Press right on the direction pad (1.30).
• The 3 function alternatives appear in the view-
finder/monitor (1.19/32),
– SINGLE (for single pictures),
– MULTI (for multiple pictures), and
– CANCEL (canceling protection for all pictures).
The subsequent steps are different depending on the
selected function.

3. Open the relevant viewfinder/monitor screen and
follow the further menu instructions.
Note: During this step, you can also use right and
left on the direction pad to select other pictures.
• In the viewfinder/monitor

PROTECT THIS
appears in the header, while the footers contain
information about the further settings for the
function.
A protected picture is marked with the display
S
in the 2nd line, if protection is removed, it
goes out again.
