MARCOS BESSA - MODEL DESIGNER
DJORDJE DJORDJEVIC - G PHIC DESIGNER
As creative lead for LEGO
®
Harry Potter
, I don’t design a lot of sets directly. Being the
model designer for this model gave me the opportunity to go back to my roots as a
designer. And it’s Diagon Alley
! I’m a huge Harry Potter fan, and every fan has dreamed
of walking through it one day. It’s also the biggest LEGO set I’ve designed so far.
We knew how iconic Ollivanders™
is in the Harry Potter storyline, so
we developed a brand-new LEGO
element especially for this set: a
little case for LEGO wands. There
are ten of them in the model.
I love how faithful the nal design
is to the architectural details
in the lms. You can barely see
some of these buildings zooming
past your screen, but we tracked
down different photographs from
the sets some of them from
nearly 20 years ago – to make
sure everything is spot on.
I asked the Sorting Hat
to put
me in Gryffi ndor
, but I turned
out to be a Ravenclaw
. And I’ve
embraced it!
Working on Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes, because of the sheer
amount of wackiness inside that shop. Making the little packages for
things like Dungbombs or Puking Pastilles – that was the most fun I
had working with the interiors.
We started off with only four shops, and through the process of
discussing the scenes and locations we agreed to scale down the
buildings in order to add more locations to the set. That process of
expanding the set while keeping the original amount of details is
what I’m most proud of. It was a beautiful process of collaboration.
Similarly, we ended up with way more characters than we intended
to initially, which is great for the fans.
I’m defi nitely a Gryf ndor.
