9.1 Checks and maintenance measures when preparing for use

Before every trip, check the condition of the vehicle and ensure that it is safe to operate.
The vehicle must be in perfect technical condition when it is being operated.
Check the gear oil level. ( p. 111)
Check the electrical system.
Check the front brake fluid level. ( p. 77)
Check the rear brake fluid level. ( p. 82)
Check the front brake linings. ( p. 79)
Check the rear brake linings. ( p. 83)
Check that the brake system is functioning properly.

Check the chain for dirt. ( p. 68)

The spoke tension must be checked regularly as incorrect spoke tension will strongly impair riding safety.

9.2 Starting
Danger
Danger of poisoningExhaust gases are toxic and inhaling them may result in unconsciousness and death.
Always make sure there is sufficient ventilation when running the engine.
Use an effective exhaust extraction system when starting or running the engine in an enclosed space.
Note
Engine damageHigh revving speed with a cold engine negatively impacts the lifespan of the engine.
Always run the engine warm at a low speed.

If the motorcycle does not start easily, there may be old fuel in the float chamber. The easily ignitable components of the fuel
evaporate during lengthy periods of disuse.
When the float chamber is filled with fresh, ignitable fuel, the engine will start immediately.
Condition
The motorcycle was stationary for more than 1 week.
Empty the carburetor float chamber. ( p. 111)
Turn handle
of the fuel tap to the ON position. (Figure V00326-10 p. 17)
Fuel can flow from the fuel tank to the carburetor.
Take the motorcycle off of the stand.
Shift gear to neutral.
Condition
The engine is cold.
