Use
The orbital sander is universally suitable for use as a san-
der with wood, paint, metal and plastic.
Safety instructions and prevention of accidents
Before operating the machine, please read through the ope-
rating instructions completely, follow the Safety Instructions
in this manual as well as the general Safety Instructions for
Power Tools in the accompanying booklet.
1. Always pull the power plug when making any ad-
justments on the machine.
2. Damaged mains cables must not be used. They are
to be replaced immediately.
3. Always wear safety goggles when working with the
orbital sander.
4. Always keep your hair tied back, and don't wear
loose clothing.
5. Protect the machine against moisture when work-
ing outdoors.
6. Always keep the machine out of reach of children.
7. When completing large sanding jobs without dust
extraction, it is advisable to wear a breathing mask.
The blowout port on the blower flange must be
closed with the cover (9) supplied.
8. Wear ear protection when working with the ma-
chine for prolonged periods.
9. Operate the orbital sander from an isolating trans-
former when wet grinding.
10. Do not work with materials containing asbestos!
11. Outside power sockets must be protected with
residual-current-operated circuit-breakers (r.c.c.b.).
12. Do not drill holes into the housing to label the
machine. The protective insulation will be bridged.
Please use self-adhesive labels.
Double insulation
Our equipment is designed in accordance with European
regulations (EN standards) for the utmost safety of the
user. Machines with double insulation always carry the
international symbol. The machines do not require
earthing. A two-core cable is sufficient. The machines are
interference-suppressed in accordance with EN 55014.
Motor
The powerful universal motor doesn't mind long contin-
uous operations. As for all other electric tools, observe the
instructions concerning removal of dust and dirt within the
scope of maintenance and upkeep of the machine.
Initial operation
Before the first operation check that the mains voltage cor-
responds to that given on the machine nameplate.
Switch with Holding Button for Continuous Operation
The machine is set in operation by pressing in the handle
switch. The holding button on the side of the switch is
pressed in for continuous operation. To release the contin-
uous operation, merely depress the switch which makes
the holding button spring back automatically.
Full-wave electronic control
This sander incorporates a full-wave electronic control to
adjust required speed merely by applying power at the
on/off switch. Any speed within the orbital and stroking
range can be additionally engaged by means of a locking
wheel.
The orbital/stroking speed best suited for a given sanding
job depends upon many factors, e.g., type and hardness of
the material that is to be finished, quality and grain of the
abrasive paper.
Dust extraction unit
This orbital sander features a dust extraction unit. Sanding
dust is extracted through the sanding shoe and blown into
the dust bag.
Attaching the Dust Bag
Remove the cover (9). Push dust bag (5) with catch (4) onto
seat on fan flange from handle side and press down. The
catch is engaged by spring pressure. The dust bag can be
removed by pulling the molded grip. Empty the dust bag
when suction begins to drop off. The dust bag must be
emptied more frequently when sanding plaster. To do this,
pull off clamp (6) in direction of arrow and push it back into
position after emptying the dust bag.
Adapter for vacuum cleaner connection
The adapter (8) makes it possible, in particular when work-
ing with large surfaces, to remove sanding dust with a
commercially available vacuum cleaner.
Attaching and removing the adapter is carried out in the
same way as with the dust bag.
Abrasive Paper
The bur-adhesive sand paper is simply pressed onto the
sanding shoe (3). The perforations in the sand paper must
line up with the drilled holes in the sanding shoe. Only then
can troublefree dust extraction be ensured.
The sand paper with DIN-perforations from our access-
ories not only have a very long life, but guarantee perfect
fit.
The use of standard abrasive paper on bur-adhesive
orbital sanders
In order to prevent damage to the bur-adhesive coating,
the enclosed bur-adhesive sand paper must be pressed
onto the sanding shoe before clamping on the abrasive
paper.
Clamping on abrasive paper
Push up the clamp clip until it is released and swing it
downward. Place the abrasive paper on sanding shoe and
close the clamp by swinging it back into its initial position
and locking it on the sanding shoe. Wrap the abrasive
paper around the sanding shoe, place it under the second
clamp and tighten. Ensure that the abrasive paper is
clamped as smoothly as possible.
Operating Orbital Sander
Best results are obtained from the orbital sander by sand-
ing one path after the other. It is recommended to overlap
