1.2 Over ISDN

ISDN staat voor Integrated Services Digital Network en werkt via

een volledig digitaal netwerk. Via dit netwerk kan geluid, data,

beeld en tekst worden verzonden. Voorheen waren voor de diverse

communicatietoepassingen verschillende typen aansluitingen

nodig. ISDN integreert deze aansluitingen zodat u op één telefoon

lijn bijvoorbeeld een computer, telefoontoestel en faxapparaat

kunt aansluiten.

Eén ISDN2-aansluiting kan worden vergeleken met twee gewone

telefoonlijnen. Deze ISDN-aansluiting heeft standaard twee com-

municatie-kanalen (B-kanalen). De twee B-kanalen kunnen tegelij-

kertijd en onafhankelijk van elkaar worden gebruikt. U kunt telefo-

neren via de ene lijn en op hetzelfde moment faxen via de andere

lijn.

De ISDN2-lijn wordt aangesloten op een aansluitkastje. Dit aan-

sluitkastje heet Network Terminator 1 (NT1). Vanuit het NT1-kastje

loopt een kabel die S-bus wordt genoemd. U kunt de

ISDN op 2 manieren instellen, namelijk als Point

to Point of als Multipoint. De Point to Point-aansluiting, ook aan-

geduid PABX-aansluiting, biedt de mogelijkheid van doorkiezen.

Bij doorkiezen is het mogelijk om alle handsets of apparaten

rechtstreeks te bereiken. Elke handset of apparaat krijgt dan een

zogenoemd doorkiesnummer. De Multipoint-aansluiting wordt

ook aangeduid als standaardaansluiting en biedt de mogelijkheid

om meer telefoonnummers te gebruiken op een aansluiting.

Op een Multipoint-aansluiting kunnen maximaal 8 apparaten

worden aangesloten.
