Notes on operation in microwave mode
Cookware and materials
Only use cookware and utensils for microwave operation
that are suitable for use in microwave ovens.
For this purpose, please refer exactly to the following
tables.
In general: Metal containers are not allowed for micro-
wave use.
However, even non-metallic dishes may not be suitable
for use in the microwave.
If you are unsure about the microwave suitability of your
dishes, you can perform the following test.
Cookware and material test:
Pour 250 ml of water into a microwaveable container
and place it in the microwave together with the dishes/
utensils to be tested.
Now operate the appliance at the maximum power level
for 1 minute, but no longer.
Then carefully check the temperature of the empty
dishes/utensils: if it is warm, it is unsuitable for micro-
wave operation.
Notes on operation in microwave mode
Under no circumstances may the appliance be
operated empty. This is very dangerous!
Heating liquids
When heating liquids with microwaves, boiling delay can
occur, i.e. a liquid can reach very high temperatures
over 100°C without boiling visibly, but suddenly boil over
with bubbling at the slightest touch.
To avoid the risk of scalding, put a metal teaspoon wit-
hout sharp edges, tips or thin elements into the liquid.
This provides so-called boiling nuclei, which prevents
the boiling delay.
Keep an eye on the cooking process (in case of sparking
or arcing due to non-observance of the instructions
on the shape of the spoon, switch off the appliance
immediately).
Utensils Remarks
Aluminum May cause arcing.
Food carton with metal handle May cause arcing.
Metal or metaltrimmed
utensils
Metal shields the food from microwave energy.
Metal trim may cause arcing.
Metal twist ties May cause arcing and could cause a re in the cooking chamber.
Paper bags May cause a re in the cooking chamber.
Plastic foam Plastic foam may melt or contaminate the liquid inside when exposed to high tem-
perature.
Wood Wood will dry out when used in the microwave oven and may split or crack.
Materials to be avoided in the microwave
