Tyres / Valves
Maintenance / Care
Always ensure that the tyres are fully inflated. Insufficient pressure leads to quicker wear and tear of the tyres wheel rims
and tubes. It is more enjoyable to cycle when the pressure in the front tyre is slightly less than that of the rear tyre. On soft
surfaces the pressure should be reduced accordingly to ensure that improved adhesion is achieved. The air pressure should
be checked with a pressure gauge or by putting both thumbs in the middle of the tyre and pressing firmly. The tyre should
only be able to be pressed in lightly. The tyres used by us are provided with a special puncture protection. Do, however, con
stantly check the tyres for wear and tear. Remove any stones, nails or glass etc. from the tyre thereby increasing your tyre’s
lifespan. Should you not use your KETTLER aluminium bike over a longer period of time it is recommendable to hang the bike
up. Our extensive accessory programme offers several possibilities for the storage of your bike. Reduce the air pressure in
your tyres without losing their roundness. Additional spraying with silicone rubber spray prevents drying out. Clean the tyres
before spraying.
Repairs
A tyre puncture can happen to anyone suddenly. This however does not have to necessarily mean the end of a bike trip. With
a repair kit and air pump the puncture can be quickly resolved. In the event of a puncture, first of all position the bike on its
“head” and check the floor for any possible foreign bodies. By doing so, the “flat” may be repaired without having to
remove the tyre. If this is not possible proceed as described in the point “Assembly and Disassembly of the Wheel”.
In the event of a tyre puncture check that the valve is properly sealed. Should no defect be detected disassemble the wheel
as already described on previous pages. Press the tyre opposite the rim wall, use your hand to pull the edge of the rim near
the valve and remove along the whole length of the rim. Remove the tube, gently inflate and look for the puncture, in a water
bath if posible. Repair the puncture as described in the repair kit instructions. Before assembly, check whether any foreign
bodies remain in the tyre, and if so, remove them. Lay the tube around the rim and gently inflate. Finally, press the tyre
behind the rim edge, starting opposite the valve (take care not to get the tube trapped). Before fully inflating the tyre move it
to and fro on the sides. Whilst doing so, ensure that the circumference marking has the same distance to the rim edge all the
way round. Never use a sharp tool when assembling the tyre, the tube could be punctured.
