mountingboltandswingthechaintensionerinthearroweddirectionuntil
thereisapprox.1mmspacebetweenthejockeywheelandthesprocket.
Retightenthemountingbolt(5mmallenkey,tighteningtorque
8Nm/70in.lbs.).
Ondropoutsthinnerthan7mm,theuseofthe13toothsprocket(chainline
58mm)willrequiretheuseofthelongermountingbolt. Thisisavailable
separately(Art.#8255).
Placeallthree0.2mmorone
0,5mmdistancingwashers
betweentheoutersideoftheswing
armandthemountingbolt. This
willguaranteethattheswingarm
ispreventedfrommoving.Mount
the DHchaintensioner
withthecorrectamountof
distancingwashers,sothatthe
jockeywheelssitdirectly
underneaththesprocketforthe
correctchainline.

The DHchaintensioneris
speciallydesignedfordownhilluse.
Ithasatensioncapacityof10
chainlinks.Incontrasttothe
regular chaintensioner,it
hasashorterswingarmthatis
restrictedfrommoving. This
featureensuresthattheupper
jockeywheelrunsveryclosetothe
sprocket. Thisforcedguide
guaranteesapositiverunofthe
chainontothesprocketevenunder
extremeridingconditions. To
removethewheel,thechain
tensionermountingboltmustbe
loosened.

Tomountanewchain,thedistancebetweenthebottombracketandtheaxlemustbesettotheminimum.
Placethechainoverthechainringandthesprocket.Removetherequiredamountofchainlinks,sothatthechain
isattheminimumpossiblelength.Jointhechaintogetherfollowingthemanufacturersinstructions.
Tensionthechainbymovingthewheel/bottombracketuntilthechainnolongersags. Thistensionshouldbe

Onhardtailframesthechainlength
shouldbeadjusted,sothatthe
chaintensionercageliesbetween
30°andtheverticalposition.
Onrearsuspensionframes,check
thatthechaintensionerisnotover-
tensionedwhenthereartriangle
movesthefullamountoftravel.
Theamountofchainlinksneeded
varies,dependingontheposition
ofthepivotpointoftherear
triangle. Tocheck:swingtherear
triangletoitsendposition(eg
removetherearshockspring).If
thelowerjockeywheelishigher
thantheupperjockeywheel,orif
thechaintensionercageisagainst
thechainstay,thenthechainmust
belengthened.
5.3 Thechain
5.3.1Mountingwithachaintensioner
Iftheframedoesnothave OEMdropouts,horizontaldropoutsoranexcentricbottombracketenabling
thechaintobetensioned,thenachaintensionermustbemounted.
Aftermountingthechaintensioner(chapter5.2)thechainlinewillbecorrect.Nowthechainhastobemounted
atthecorrectlength.
