2. What is a Pedelec? Legal basics
Like all bicycles, the Pedelec must meet the requirements of the respective national
road traffic laws. Please observe the explanations and general information in the
bicycle technical instruction manual regarding this point.
The motor may only serve as an aid to pedalling, i.e. it may only ‘help’
when the rider himself is pedalling.
The average motor output must not exceed 250 W.
The motor output must decrease more and more as speed increases.
The motor must switch off at 25 km/h.
What does that mean for the rider?
A helmet is not compulsory (but recommended).
A driving license is not compulsory.
Insurance is not compulsory.
A Pedelec can be ridden without age restrictions.
The use of cycle paths is subject to the same rules as for normal bicycles.
Pushing assistant
It is possible to have a so-called ‘pushing
assistant’ fitted by your dealer.
This moves the Pedelec slowly forward at
6 km/h without you having to pedal, e.g. if
you have to manoeuvre in tight spaces or
push the bicycle up a ramp out of an under-
ground car park.
3. Charging the battery
The battery must be removed from its holder
on the Pedelec for charging.
Turn the key anticlockwise to unlock the battery. Now hold the battery by the
handle and tilt it sideways out of the Pedelec. You can now remove it. Please hold
the battery very tight; it is heavy and could fall out!
It is best to remove the key now and keep it in a safe place, as it could otherwise
be snapped off or get lost.
Charging procedure
Please read the instructions on the charger
carefully before commencing with the charging
procedure!
1. Remove the charger supplied with the
bicycle from its packing and plug it into a
mains socket (220 V, please take note of
the rating plate on the charger).
2. Place the battery in the holder in the
charger.
3. The charging procedure begins. The LEDs
on the battery light up. If all 5 LEDs light
up red, or if the LEDs have extinguished,
then the battery is fully charged. You can
leave the battery in the charger, but the
charger continually consumes a certain amount of electricity if left in the
charger. In any case, the charger always consumes a certain amount of
electricity if it is left plugged in.
4. If you wish to save electricity, unplug the charger from the mains socket.
