JUN G H ANS TH E G E R M AN WATC H
Many congratulations on your purchase of a timepiece from
Junghans.
What began in 1861 with the founding of the firm in Schramberg
quickly developed into one of the most fascinating success stories
of the German watchmaking industry. While since that time the
demands made of watches may have changed, the Junghans
philosophy has always remained the same. Innovative flair and
the constant pursuit of precision right down to the smallest detail
define how the company works and thinks. You can see and sense
this in every watch that carries the Junghans name. For as diverse
as the Junghans range may be, it pursues one single goal: to
combine traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge watch
technology and exciting design. That makes every watch with the
Junghans star unique.
We hope you will enjoy this very special time-keeping instrument.
Yours,
Uhrenfabrik Junghans GmbH & Co. KG

1. Radio technology – The most up-to-date way to keep time
5,000 years have passed since timekeeping began with sundials. In the
interim there have been water clocks, the mechanical clocks of the 13th
century and quartz watches. Now we have the radio-controlled watch.
This is a watch that, with good reception, will never go wrong and never need
setting. The Junghans radio-controlled watch is absolutely precise, as it is lin-
ked via wireless technology to the timing control of the most accurate clock
in the world, namely the Caesium Time Base at the Physikalisch-Technischen
Bundesanstalt in Braunschweig (Germany’s national institute of natural and
engineering sciences).

2. Functions
Please note that your Junghans radio-controlled watch has recessed correc-
tors. To operate the correctors please use a suitable pointed implement.
Using the winder (varies by model)
Depending on the model you have, you are able to hide the LCD display of
your Junghans radio-controlled watch by turning the winder. Hiding the LCD
display is the winder’s sole function. You do not need to pull it out to do this.
Indeed, it is not possible to do so and trying to pull it out could damage the
mechanism.
Turning the winder clockwise (c. 1.5 turns
towards T1) moves a cover across the LCD
display. Turning it anti-clockwise (c. 1.5 turns
towards T2) uncovers it again.
T1
T2
If reception fails due to interference (e.g. stormy weather, electrical applian-
ces or dimmer switches), the Junghans radio-controlled watch will launch
renewed attempts to pick up the signal fully automatically the following
night.
It is also possible to use a ‘transmitter call’ to synchronise the time manual-
ly, for example at a location where reception conditions are better.
The most recently received time data is stored internally in a time memory.
The watchs high-precision 32kHz quartz movement will continue to keep to
this ‘original time’ until the watch synchronises itself again. The radio-
controlled time synchronisation of your Junghans watch not only ensures an
always precise display of the time, but given good reception also takes
care of switching from winter to summer time, and vice versa, fully auto -
matically (at night).
If you travel to a country in a different time zone, the time adjustment facility
on your Junghans radio-controlled watch makes it easy to switch to the
appropriate local time.

3. Automatic time synchronisation
Daily, fully automatic time synchronisa-
tion takes place each night, as long as
the time zone has not been adjusted by
more than +/– 1 hour. A flashing dot on
the LCD display indicates that the signal
is being received. When the automatic
time synchronisation has successfully
finished, the dot on the LCD display
stops flashing. The time signal always
changes the date automatically. The pro-
cess takes into account both the 29th
February in leap years and winter/sum-
mer time.
If all of the attempts at picking up a signal lead to no clear time synchroni-
sation, the reception indicator goes up by 1 (to a maximum of 9). The watch
keeps count of any further days with time synchronisation. Thanks to the
internal time-memory, your watch will continue to run throughout such
days with the precision of a quartz watch. As soon as it is possible to pick up
the signal successfully again, your watch gets synchronised and the recep-
tion indicator is reset to ‘0.
To ensure the best possible conditions for night-time reception of the time
synchronisation signal, we recommend that you do not wear your watch at
night and that wherever possible you avoid putting it down near to electri-
cal appliances or mobile / cordless phones.

x By pressing briefly again on button T2, you can advance the time by one
hour with each press (+)
For example: to adjust the time from 15:00 to 18:00, press the T2 button
three times.
x The 24-hour time shown on the LCD display enables you to check that you
have adjusted your watch to the time you wanted.
x 9 seconds after the button is pressed for the last time, the LCD display
switches automatically to showing the date.
x In order to go back to DCF 77 local time, please initiate a manual transmit-
ter call (4.). To have the display show the last received time, you can abort
the manual transmitter call by pressing the T1 button. Thanks to the inter-
nal time memory, you can do this at any time, even outside of the trans-
mitter’s coverage range, e.g. when you’re on holiday.
x If you are travelling into a time zone with a time difference other than a
full hour, please perform a reset (6.) and then a manual start (7.) so that
you can set the time manually. When you get back into the DCF 77 trans-
mitter’s coverage area, please initiate a manual transmitter call (4.) in
order to trigger time synchronisation with the DCF 77 transmitter. If your
radio-controlled watch is unable to pick up the signal or if you abort the
manual transmitter call, the watch reverts to the time setting that was
programmed previously.
4. Manual transmitter calls
In addition to automatic time synchronisation with the DCF 77 time signal
transmitter, manual time synchronisation is also possible. This is known as a
‘transmitter call’.
To do this, press button T1 for over 3 seconds (use a suitable pointed imple-
ment). The hands begin to move and position themselves in the 12 o’clock
position. The dot on the LCD display starts to flash.
In place of the date, the display now shows the seconds in digital format
[00]. While the signal is being received, please keep your watch still or put it
down.
With good reception, the hands will automatically set themselves to the
right time.
If you wish, you can interrupt the manual time synchronisation process, as
soon as the hands have moved to the 12 o’clock position. To do so, briefly press
button T1.
The hands now position themselves at the last received DCF 77 time.
Any time zone adjustment that may have been made gets reset.
5. Setting the time zone
If you travel to a country where Central European Time (CET) / Central
European Summer Time (CEST) does not apply, you can set your watch to the
applicable time zone for that country by using the T2 time zone button.
x To do this, press button T2 for over 3 seconds (use a suitable pointed imple-
ment). The LCD display now shows the current hour (24-hour display).
3332
7. Manual start
If after an automatic restart your watch fails to pick up the radio signal or the
restart gets interrupted, you can set the time manually using the manual
start routine.
To go to manual start, abort the restart process. To do so, wait for the hands
to reach the 12 o’clock position and then press the T2 button for over
3 seconds.
Manual start mode is indicated by the display showing the year, e.g. [99].
Every time you press the T1 button the display advances by one year. Once
you have reached the current year, you need to confirm this by briefly pres-
sing the T2 button.
The LCD display now switches to showing the month setting [12]. This is
again adjusted via the T1 button. You again need to confirm the month you
want by a short press of the T2 button.
Perform the following settings using the procedure described above:
x Set the date - what is shown on the LCD display switches to the last date
of the month, e.g. [31]
x Set the hour – what is shown on the LCD display switches to [23]
x Set the minutes – what is shown on the LCD display switches to [59]
For the correct time to be shown, please ensure that you always set your
watch to the next full minute and confirm the time at the 60
th
second.
6. Changing battery / Reset
After the battery is changed or the watch reset, a restart is automatically
triggered.
Please note: batteries should be changed only by an authorised specialist
dealer or the Junghans Service Centre. To trigger a reset, press T2 for more
than 16 seconds or until the LCD display clears. All stored time information
gets deleted.
The hands move to the 12 o’clock position and the DCF 77 transmitter signal
reception phase begins. After a few minutes (in optimum reception condi-
tions), the watch sets itself to the exact time. If your radio-controlled watch
is unable to pick up the time signal, it will automatically make further syn-
chronisation attempts at a later time (every 6 hours).
Using the manual start function (7.), you are also able to adjust the time
manually right away.
This also applies if you are outside of the range of the DCF 77 transmitter and
want to start using your watch again after a change of battery.
3534
8. Readiness for use
To ensure that your Junghans radio-controlled watch is always ready for use,
you should avoid allowing its power reserves to run down. You should check
your watch regularly to make sure that it has enough battery power. If it no
longer has enough (e.g. the battery has run out or the ambient temperature
is too low - which impairs battery performance), whatever display is set at
that time on the LCD starts flashing, alternating with the letters [Lo].
If the battery does put itself right (e.g. due to better ambient temperature),
you should take your watch as soon as possible to your authorised specialist
dealer to have the battery changed. Alternatively, send it to the Junghans
Service Centre.
Please ensure that the battery is disposed of properly in accordance with
statutory regulations.
After you have set the minutes and confirmed this using the T2 button, the
hands will move to the programmed time. The LCD display now shows the
seconds. The reception indicator shows [--] instead of [0]. Adjustment of the
time zone is not possible in manual start mode.
If necessary, the programmed time can be corrected by holding down button
T2 for longer than 3 seconds.
If in conjunction with the manual start you also set the time manually, your
radio-controlled watch will not perform any automatic attempt to pick up
the time signal. A manual transmitter call (4.) is, however, possible at any
time.
Any successful manual transmitter call overwrites the time that you set by
hand and your watch then shows the DCF 77 time with wireless technology
precision.

let in moisture. We therefore recommend that you have your watch regular-
ly inspected by your Junghans specialist. Other servicing tasks or wrist strap
repairs should also be done by your Junghans specialist. Your watch is fitted
with a quality wrist strap that has undergone multiple inspections in our
factory. If, however, you decide to change the strap, please fit a new one of
the same quality, preferably an original Junghans wrist strap. Watch and
wrist strap can be cleaned with a dry or slightly moistened cloth.

do.
