How to play the Traditional Dutch Game of the Goose
The players take it in turns to throw the dice. The player who rolls the highest
begins, moving their counter forward as many squares as the number they
rolled.
The special squares
If you roll a 4 and a 5 on your first throw, you move your goose straight to square 53.
If you get a 3 and a 6, your goose goes to square 26. If a player lands on a square
with a picture of a goose, they move forward the same number of squares again
that they rolled that turn. Some squares have special rules:
Square 6 Bridge Proceed to square 12
Square 19 Inn Skip a turn
Square 31 Well Wait until another player passes you
Square 42 Labyrinth Back to square 37
Square 52 Prison Wait until another player frees you
Square 58 Death Go back to the beginning and start again
A square is occupied
If another player’s goose is already on the square you would land on, you must
remain where you are.
Who wins?
The player whose goose first reaches square 63 wins the game. Note that the
correct number must be rolled on the dice in order to reach the finish; if your roll
is too high, you count backwards from 63.
