Applique
Machine settings
Pattern: 41-50 (Applique)
Thread tension: AUTO
Presser foot: Satin stitch foot F or
open toe satin stitch foot F2
Foot pressure: 4
Place an applique on the fabric and baste it in place or
use a fusible web to secure the applique in place.
Guide the applique fabric, so that the needle falls off the
edge of the applique when the needle swings to the right.
(A): The patterns number 41 to 43 have a fixed center
needle drop position.
The stitch width changes symmetrically.
(B): The patterns number 44 to 48 have a fixed right
needle drop position. When you change the stitch
width, the left needle drop position will change.
(C): The patterns number 49 and 50 have a fixed left
needle drop position. When you change the stitch
width, the right needle drop position will change.

Machine settings
Pattern: 55-58, 61-67 (Heirloom)
Thread tension: AUTO
Presser foot: Zigzag foot A or satin stitch foot F
Foot pressure: 5
Choose a soft, lightweight fabric such as batiste, gingham
or challis. Cut the fabric three times wider than the pro-
jected width.
Sew rows of straight stitches, with the stitch length “5.0”
and thread tension loosened to “0”, 1 cm (3/8”) apart
across the area to be smocked.
Tie the threads along one edge. From the other edge, pull
the bobbin threads to distribute the gathers evenly.
NOTE:
Pull up the bobbin thread and draw a 10 cm (4”) thread
tail to the back before starting to sew.
Use the thread cutter on the face plate.
Select a smocking stitch and return the thread tension to
AUTO.
Sew the smocking stitches between the gathered rows.
Remove the straight stitches between the gathered rows.
