Shared Folder Management
The Shared Folder Management screen displays the name and supported protocols of each
shared folder. It also allows you to create, delete, or update shares.
Edit a share—Links to the Edit Shared Folder screen.
Delete a share—Click the Delete link next to the share you wish to delete.
Create Shared Folder—Links to the Create Shared Folder screen.
Edit/Create Shared Folder
NOTE: In Edit mode, some fields are for informational purposes only and cannot be edited.
Share Name—Enter a share name.
Description—Enter share information.
Security Settings—Shared folders can have one of two basic security options. Choose Open
if you wish all users on your network to have access to a shared folder. Choose Secure if
you wish only specified users to have access to the folder. Once you have selected Secure,
you can specify user access to the share. The user can have Full access or Read Only access
to a share. Enter the first few letters of a user name in the User Name field to quickly locate
the user in a long list.
Access Type—Select the protocols that can access the share.
Windows (SMB/CIFS)—Server Message Block/Common Internet File System.
Networking protocol used by Windows. Also supported by some versions of Mac OS
and Linux.
FTP—File Transfer Protocol. Common file transfer protocol on the internet. Some
operating systems may require FTP client software.
NOTE: Only one share can have FTP enabled. This protocol will be disabled if it is
already in use with another share.
Macintosh (AFP)—Apple Filing Protocol. Networking protocol native to Mac OS
systems. Use AFP for best filename compatibility with Mac OS clients
Linux/UNIX (NFS)—Network File System. Networking protocol supported by Linux and
UNIX systems. Also supported by some versions of Mac OS.
IP Addresses Allowed for NFS—Select which Linux/UNIX machines can select
an NFS share (via IP address). The client computer can have Full Access or Read
Only to a share. Click the Add button to add a new IP address. IP addresses can
use the * symbol as a wildcard to denote a whole subnet range, e.g., You can
