Stoking with coal, briquettes or coke nuts

HWAM Figaro is not built for stoking with coal or coke nuts. However, you may stoke with briquettes,

which should be placed onto the glowing embers from the wood. The temperature regulator should

be fully opened until the briquettes are glowing well.

Remember that the regulator arm should be closed down again. You should bear in

mind that stoking with fuels other than wood can lead to an increased risk of soot on

the glass.

Fast or strong heat

Fast or strong heat can be achieved by burning lots of small logs.

Maximum fuel limits

The maximum amounts of fuel to be burnt in 1 hour are either 2.5 kg wood or 2.0 kg briquettes

If these limits are exceeded, the stove will no longer be covered by the manufacturer’s guarantee,

and the stove could be permanently damaged by the excessive heat. The stove has been approved

for intermittent use.

Long burning time, illustration E

A long burning time can be achieved by burning fewer (at least two) very large logs, while regulating

downward with the regulator arm at the same time. The slowest combustion is achieved by pushing

the regulation bar to regulate the effect (1) and the regulation bar that controls the window pane

washing (2) to the far left. During this regulation the primary air supply is completely closed off, which

means that when a new ﬁre is started, air for combustion must be supplied manually. This is done by

pushing the regulation bar regulating primary and secondary air to the far right and after approx. ﬁve

minutes slowly pushing it to the left again, while keeping an eye on the ﬂames, making sure that they

do not die out. When the combustion is slow, it can be difﬁcult to keep the window pane clean.

To extend burning time the supplied cover plate should be employed. See sectional

drawing D.

The cover plate is ﬁtted above the shaker grate. The cover plate sits about 8 mm above the grate so

that the primary combustion air is spread evenly around the bottom of the combustion chamber.

Too little combustion

If the ﬁreproof materials in the combustion chamber become “black” after stoking, the stove will

become contaminated, and the automatics will not function optimally. The regulator arm should the-

refore be opened further. It may also be necessary to burn a greater amount of wood.

Types of logs

It is recommended that birch or beech logs are used. These should have been split and stored for at

least one year, outside and under a roof. Wood that has been stored indoors tends to get too dry

and burn too quickly.

Briquettes give off a great deal of heat. Certain types swell up considerably, leading to a combustion

rate that is not possible to control.
