18.1 Checking the engine oil level
Condition
The engine is at operating temperature.
Preparatory work
–Stand the motorcycle upright on a horizontal surface.

Main work
–Check the engine oil level.
Info
After switching off the engine, wait one minute before
checking the level.
The engine oil must be between the Aand Bmarkings .
»When the engine oil level is below the Amarking:
–Add engine oil. ( p. 104)
»When the engine oil level is above the Bmarking:
–Correct the engine oil level.
18.2 Changing the engine oil and oil filter, cleaning the oil screen
Warning
Danger of scalding Engine and gear oil get very hot when the motorcycle is ridden.
–Wear suitable protective clothing and safety gloves.
–In the event of scalding, rinse the area affected immediately with lukewarm water.

Environmental hazard Hazardous substances cause environmental damage.
–Dispose of oils, grease, filters, fuel, cleaning agents, brake fluid, etc., correctly and in compliance
with the applicable regulations.

Drain the engine oil with the engine at operating temperature.

–Remove the front spoiler. ( p. 62)
–Stand the motorcycle on a level surface using the side stand.

–Position an appropriate container under the engine.
–Remove oil drain plug 1with the O-ring.
–Remove oil screen 2with the O-ring.
–Allow the engine oil to drain completely.
–Clean the oil drain plug and the oil screen thoroughly.
–Position oil screen 2and mount and tighten oil drain
plug 1with the O-ring.
Guideline
Oil drain plug M24x1.5 15 Nm (11.1 lbf ft)
