I am concerned abiut my machine as it started to smoke from the area where the electricity cord is plugged in at the side, i had only just begun sewing when it happened.

Chances are that the capacitor on the control board has failed.

It's a cheap part to fix it if it is.
If you've not got a tame DIY-er with a soldering iron, take it to a sewing shop, and treat it to a service at the same time. Answered on 6-11-2020 at 20:02

Now it is 2022, march. My wife got Husqvarna Optima 190 Sensotronic about 50 years ago as a gift from her father. It happened the same about 6 months ago. I changed allready the capacitor (was burned), but also the tiny resistor behind this capacitor is burned (i can´t see the colours of the burned resistor) and I haven´t found the circuit diagram anywhere. Is here anybody, who knows it. The meter shows value 120 ohms, but I cant trust it! Jouko from Finland PS It should be fine, if I could the machine working! We don´t use it anymore, but if it would be intact. Answered on 5-3-2022 at 17:04
