Congratulations for purchasing your scalla3 combo phone. We hope that you will enjoy it for
a long time. Please review these operating instructions carefully to ensure that you set up the
phone correctly and that you are familiar with all the functions of the system.
Safety instructions
Please read the safety information in the section "Setup" to ensure that you can safely use
your phone.
• Caution:
Your phone can be set to a high volume. Please pay attention to the following informa-
tion to protect your ears or the ears of persons with normal hearing, especially children,
from hearing impairments due to a high volume.
1. Please set a low volume level before you place the receiver on your ear.
2. During use, adjust the volume to a level that is comfortable for you.
• Place the device on an anti-slip surface.
• Install the connection cables with due regard to safety.
• Never subject the phone to the following impacts:
- heat sources
- direct solar radiation
- humidity
• Protectthephoneagainstmoisture,dust,aggressiveuidsandvapors.
• Connect the cables only to the appropriate connection sockets.

Setup
Packaging content
Please check whether all of the parts listed
in the following are included:

Please contact your dealer or directly the
manufacturer if parts are missing.
Inserting the batteries into the basic unit
Accumulator are optional and not a part of
delivery.
The phone needs four 1.2 V accumulator
(type "AAA") for backup and fully function if
the phone is powerless.
Please proceed as follows when inserting
the batteries:
1. Remove the battery compartment cover
underneath the phone.
2. Insert four 1.5 V batteries (type "AAA")
into the battery compartment. Ensure that
the batteries are inserted with the correct
polarity!
3. Close the battery compartment cover.
Note: The charger must be connected for
the background lighting of the display and
the special functions of the phone (see
"Connection of the phone").
Inserting the accumulator into the mobile
unit
The wireless phone needs three 1.2 V accu-
mulator (type "AAA") for the operation.
Please proceed as follows when inserting
the accumulator:
1. Remove the battery compartment cover
underneath the wireless phone.
2. Insert three 1.2 V accumulator (type
"AAA") into the battery compartment. En-
sure that the accumulator are inserted
with the correct polarity!
3. Close the battery compartment cover.
Connecting the phone
1. Plug the connector at the receiver cable
(spiral cable) into the receptacle at the
left side of the unit and into the telephone
receiver.
2. Plug the smaller connector (Western con-
nector) of the phone cable into the recep-
tacle "TEL-Sym" (rear of the unit). Plug
the larger connector (TAE plug) into the
socket of your phone connection.
3. Plug the cable of the larger power supply
unit into the DC 7.5 receptacle. Plug the
power supply into a 230V electrical outlet.
Connecting the mobile charging station
1. Plug the cable of the smaller power sup-
ply unit into the DC 7.5 V receptacle. Plug
the power supply into a 230V electrical
outlet.
Caution!
Do not place the phone next to, for example,
TV sets, screens, fans, etc., to reduce the
risk of interference. Do not place the phone
in direct sunlight or near a heat source. Only
use the original phone cable or a compa-
rablecablewithinternationalcongurations.

Use of the equipment loudspeaker dur-
ing a call
1. Press and hold the key to switch the
equipment loudspeaker on . The
loudspeaker of the receiver continues to
be switched on.
2. Hang the receiver up to switch the equip-
ment loudspeaker on.
3. You can now continue the phone call
through the equipment loudspeaker and
the installed microphone.
4. Press key to switch the equipment loud-
speaker off .
Note:
A call will be disconnected if you press the
key while the receiver has been hung
up.
Adjusting the volume of the equipment
loudspeaker
In hands-free mode, you can adjust the
ringer volume of the equipment loudspeaker
by using the keys or , which are
placed on the left side of the phone.
Redial the last dialed phone number
1. Lift the telephone receiver.
2. By pressing the key
/P
, the last dialed
number will be dialed.
Adjusting the receiver volume/high/low
frequencies
The receiver volume can be adjusted dur-
ing a phone call by using the "Volume" slide
switchonthefrontofthephone(seegure
1, page 11).
Anadditionalamplicationcanbeswitched
on by using the key. A volume of up to
40 dB is achieved if the additional ampli-
cation is switched on. The status display on
thephoneisilluminatedifthe amplication
has been switched on. The additional ampli-
cationwillbeswitchedoffbypressingthe
key again.
You can also increase high or low frequen-
cies by using the sound control (slide switch
onthefront,seegure1).
Note:
The sound control is only functional if the
amplicationisswitchedon.

Switch to adjust the volume reset
Settings can be made on your phone so that
the volume will be reset to the basic settings
once the telephone receiver is hung up.
This means that persons, who do not need
amplication, can use the phone without
risks to their hearing due to a high volume.
For normal mode, the switch on the back
of the equipment will be set to "OFF".
If you are the only user of the phone or if
you would like to deactivate the reset func-
tion, slide the switch on the back of the
equipment to the "ON" position. The adjust-
ed volume will not be reset if the telephone
receiver is hung up and your adjustments
are available for the next phone call.
Use of the phone with a hearing aid
You can use your phone with hearing aids,
assumed they are equipped with a T-coil.
For this purpose. place the selector switch
at your hearing aid to the "T" or "MT" po-
sition. Please ensure that the telephone re-
ceiver will be placed as close as possible to
your hearing aid during a phone call.
Muting
You can switch the microphone of your
phone temporarily off during a call, which
means that your conversational partner can
no longer hear you.
"Mute" will be displayed in the lower left
screen area of the display during a call.
The muting function will be activated when
pressing the left function key. The function
will be deactivated when pressing the key
again.
Hold
You can put a phone call on hold.
"Hold" will be displayed in the lower right
screen area of the display during a call. The
hold function will be activated when press-
ing the left function key. The function will be
deactivated when pressing the key again.
Insert dial break (PABX)
The dialing mode will be interrupted for a set
time by pressing the
/P
key.
Call back key (
R
)
This function is required to activate certain
T-NET performance features.
By pressing the
R
key, the phone line will
be disconnected for a certain time (100ms/
120ms/ 300ms/ 600ms) (see "Setup of the
call back time").

Photo target dial key Base
Assign phone numbers to photo target
dial keys
The 8 photo target dial keys can be assigned
to any phone number (max. 32 numbers for
each key). Afterwards, the numbers are also
in the phone book.
1. Enter the required phone number.
2. Press and hold one photo target dial key
long enough until the number on the dis-
play have been moved. Press "Save".
3. Enter the name now and press "Save"
again.
4. Select the desired ring tone for the phone
number and press "Select". This means
that the number is saved.
Note: To edit a saved number it is required
to save the new number to replace the old
number.
View the save target dial number
Press a photo target dial key to show the
saved number on the display. For this pur-
pose, the receiver must be hung up.
Dial with target dial keys
Lift the telephone receiver or press the key
.
The save phone number will be dialed by
pressing one of the photo target dial keys.
Assign a number of the call number
display, the redial function or from the
phone book to a target dial key.
1. If the desired number is shown on the dis-
play, press and hold one photo target dial
key long enough until the number on the
display has been moved. Press "Save".
2. Enter the name now and press "Save"

Photo target dial key
You can insert a small photo of the desired
conversational partner into these buttons.
By using the color coding and the plate in
the telephone receiver, you can in addition
assign a name to each picture.

Call contacts listed in the phone book
1. After you saved the phone number, press
the key "PhoneBk" to get to the phone
book.
2. By using the keys, you can browse
within the phone book and nd the de-

3. The contacts are listed in alphabetical
order. To move faster through the phone,
you can use the dial keys to jump to the
respective letter, e.g. if you are looking for
an entry with "T", press the 8 key to move
to the letter T.
4. The contact will be called by lifting the
telephone receiver or by pressing the
key.
Let the contact in the phone book speak.
It is possible to assign a voice recording
to each contact. For example, if you have
a contact "Caller1", then the name can be
recorded. The recording will be assigned to
the contact. The phone tells me the name of
the caller by using a voice output as soon as
"Caller1" calls.
A maximum of 30 contacts with recordings
of a maximum duration of 3 seconds can be
added.
The section "Set Talk" describes how set
talk will be activated.
1. Press the key "PhoneBk" to get to the
phone book.
2. By using the keys, you can browse
within the phone book and nd the de-
sired contact.
3. Select "Option"
4. Select "Record voice" with the keys
on the display.
5. The recording will be started by pressing
"Select". Say the desired message loud
and clearly.
6. The recording is completed when press-
ing "End". The recording will be replayed
immediately.

Erase a call from the caller ID list
1. The keys are used to transfer to the
caller ID list.

bers to be erased in the list.
3. Press "Option" and select "Delete". This
means that the entry is erased.

This means that all entries are erased.
Display calls received during absence
An option that displays calls in absence with
a red ashing letter symbol is available. If
this is desired, then it can be switched over
on the right side of the Base with the switch
"New call" (letter symbol).

Set display language
1. Press the "Menu" key to get to the setup
menu.
2. Select"Setdisplay"andconrmwith"Se-
lect" by using the keys.
3. Select "Set language" and conrm with
"Select".
4. Set the desired language with and the
language will be selected with "Select".
Adjust screen contrast
1. Press the "Menu" key to get to the setup
menu.
2. Select"Setdisplay"andconrmwith"Se-
lect" by using the keys.
3. Select "Set contrast" and conrm with
"Select".
4. Select the desired contrast (1-8) with
and the contrast will be set with "Select".
Set the presentation of the numbers in-
put
If you type the numbers and if the quantity
of the numbers exceeds 8 digits, then the
number will be displayed in a smaller font on
the display to ensure that all numbers are
shown. Please follow the instructions when
setting this function:
1. Press the "Menu" key to get to the setup
menu.
2. Select"Setdisplay"andconrmwith"Se-
lect" by using the keys.
3. Select"Dim:X--->xandconrmwith"Se-
lect".
4. Select with to decide whether you
want to switch this function on or off.

Set hour format
This setup is used to decide whether the
time on the display is shown in a 24 hour or
12 hour mode.
1. Press the "Menu" key to get to the setup
menu.
2. Select"Setdisplay"andconrmwith"Se-
lect" by using the keys.
3. Select "hour format" and conrm with
"Select".
4. Select the mode with andconrmwith
"Select".
Select date format
This is where you can decide how the date
on the display will be shown.
1. Press the "Menu" key to get to the setup
menu.

In toll saver mode, incoming calls will be an-

sage was recorded. After this, the answering
machine answers already after 3 rings. This
is advantageous if you try to start a remote
inquiry. If the answering machine does not
answer after the 4th ring, then no message
was recorded and you can hang up before
you must pay for the call. If the answering
machine answers after 3 rings, then a new
message was recorded.

Listen to messages (BS)
The phone shows on the display if you have
a new message.
NR means "Message"
Press the key to replay the message.
The phone announces how many new mes-
sages and how many old messages you
have. The messages will be replayed suc-
cessively. You can trigger the following func-
tions during replay.
DEL
Erase current message.
Play next message.
Repeat previous message.
Stop messages and end.
The TAM returns to the initial mode once the
playback has been completed. All incoming
messages are stored, except if you erased
a message during the playback.
Erase all messages (BS)
All messages will be erased by pressing the
DEL
key for more than 3 seconds. The phone
conrmsthethatthemessagesareerased
by sending a beep.
Remote control
You can access and control your TAM with
an external phone. For this purpose, act as
follows:
1. Call the answering machine by enter-
ing your phone number into an external
phone.
2. While the announcement is played, enter
the remote query security ID.
3. The TAM will replay a sequence of com-
mands if the remote query security ID
is accepted. Follow the requests for the
handling.
4. Hang the receiver up once you complete
access to the TAM.
The following command functions are avail-
able:

After you recorded the outgoing message,
press # or * to end. The newly recorded out-

SOS functions (BS)
This part of the instructions covers the SOS
functions of the base station.
This phone is equipped with an SOS func-
tion. An alarm will be triggered and the
emergency call starts when pressing the
SOS key. Up to 5 numbers can be stored.
These number will be called up to a maxi-
mum of 3 times or until a recipient accepts
the call. You can record your own text, which
will then be played.
The emergency call will be interrupted with
the STOP key.
Program SOS number
1. Press the "Menu" key to get to the setup
menu.
2. Select"SETSOS"andconrmwith"Se-
lect" by using the keys.

4. Select an "SOS NUMBER" 1 to 5 with the

After 10 ring tones the phone answers auto-
matically. (In this situation, the user can hear
the caller, but he/she cannot answer). The
caller hears a beep which represents the
request to enter the security ID. Afterwards,
the hands-free function is activated. The
caller hears a tone every 2 minutes. She/
he must now press a key to continue the
call, otherwise the call will be disconnected.
If the function "disconnect automatically"
is activated, then the user must press the
hands-free key and the hands-free function
is switched on while the security ID must not
be entered.

Additional connections (BS)
Connecting socket for vibration pad and/
or module
Your phone includes a connection socket for
vibration pads or supplementary signal gen-
erator modules. This means that a received
call will not only be signaled by a very loud,
adjustable ringer tone and a very bright op-
tical display but also through an optionally
available vibration pad and/or module.
In addition to the acoustic call display you
can choose whether the call will be addition-
ally signaled through vibrations or optically
with vibrations. Slide the signal selector
switch (at the rear of the phone) to one of
three possible positions to select the desired
signalization type.
- Switch on the left: optical with signal
through a connected vibration pad and/
or module
- Switch in the center: only signals through
a connected vibration pad and/or module
- Switch on the right: only optical
The following, optionally available auxiliary
modules can be connected to the phone:
- Flash module
- Switch module
- Acoustic module
Headset connection
Standard headset with a 2.5 mm jack bush.
(e.g. to connect a PL-100/PL-200)
Headphone connection
Head phone output (3.5 mm jack bush) to
connect a tele-loop, a headphone or similar.
1. Slide the bracket for the phone receiver
from its position and rotate it by 180 de-
grees. Afterwards, slide the bracket back
into the original position in such a way
the the bracket nose points upward (see
gure 2). This prevents a falling of the
receiver from the receiver cradle if the
phone is wall mounted.

Adjusting the volume of the equipment

In hands-free mode, you can adjust the vol-
ume of the equipment loudspeaker by using

the left side of the phone.
Redial the last dialed phone number
1. By pressing the key , the last dialed
number will be displayed.
2. Using , you can dial the last dialed num-
bers.
3. Press the key to dial the number.
Adding the last dialed numbers to the
phone book
1. By pressing the key , the last dialed
number will be displayed.
2. Using , you can dial the last dialed num-
bers.
3. Press "More" and select "Store No." with
"Select".
4. Enter the number now and select "Save".
5. If required, you can now still change the
number and select "Save".
6. Select the desired melody for this contact
and select "Save" to complete this pro-

Adjusting the receiver volume/high/low
frequencies
The receiver volume can be adjusted during
a calls by using the or keys, which
are located on the left side of the phone.
The key can be used to switch an ad-
ditionalamplicationon.A volume of up to
30 dB is achieved if the additional ampli-
cationisswitchedon.Theredamplication
display on top of the phone is illuminated if
theamplicationhasbeenswitchedon.The
additional amplication will be switched off
by pressing the key again.
You can adjust the volume with .
Press the key and adjust the desired
volume from 1 to 3.
Note:
The volume control can only be adjusted
during a call.
Use of the phone with a hearing aid
You can use your phone with hearing aids,
assumed they are equipped with a T-coil.
For this purpose. place the selector switch
at your hearing aid to the "T" or "MT" po-
sition. Please ensure that the telephone re-
ceiver will be placed as close as possible to
your hearing aid during a phone call.
Muting
You can switch the microphone of your
phone temporarily off during a call, which
means that your conversational partner can
no longer hear you.
"Mute" will be displayed in the lower right
screen area of the display during a call. The
mute function will be activated when press-
ing the right function key. The function will
be deactivated when pressing the key again.
Call back key
This function is required to activate certain
T-NET performance features.
"R" will be displayed in the lower left screen
area of the display during a call. By press-
ing the left function key, the phone line will
be disconnected for a certain time (100ms/
120ms/ 300ms/ 600ms) (see "Setup of the
call back time).
Finding a mobile unit
In case you misplaced the mobile unit, you
can nd it by using the mobile unit search
key on the Base.
1. Press the search key on the Base
briey. The registered mobile units start
ringing for app. 50 seconds.
2. Press the search key once more to
stop the search process.

Additional functions (MT)
Register new mobile unit
The delivered mobile unit is already regis-
tered with the Base. It is registered as mo-
bile unit 1. Each additional mobile unit that
you purchase must rst be registered with
the Base station.
Up to 5 mobile units can be registered with
the Base station. Internal calls between mo-
bile units are possible. Incoming calls can
be transferred to other mobile units.
Up to 4 Base stations can be registered
with each mobile unit. This increases the
range of the phone, which means that you
can move between the phone transmission
ranges.
Please follow the instructions to register a
new mobile unit:
1. Press the search key on the Base for
app. 5 seconds. The remaining process
will be completed on the mobile unit.
2. Press the "Menu" key and select the
"Registration" entry with .
3. Press "Select".
4. Select the desired base with and con-
rm with "Select". The Base station will
now be searched and the mobile unit will
be registered.
5. Enter the PIN code (default is 0000).
6. A registration tone sounds if the PIN
code is accepted and the Base assigns a
number to the mobile unit. A warning ton
sounds if the PIN code is wrong and the
module returns to the previous registra-
tion status. You can enter the PIN code
again.
Internal calls
You can conduct internal calls or transfer ex-
ternal calls between mobile units if several
mobile units are registered to one base.
Please follow the instructions to conduct an
internal call:
1. Press the key at the mobile unit.
2. Enter the desired mobile number be-
tween 1 and 5.
Dialing 9 means that all mobile units will
be called. The mobile unit issues a warn-
ing tone if you enter a wrong number.
The number of the calling mobile unit will
be shown on the display if you receive an
internal call.
Call connections between mobile units
An internal call can be transferred from one
mobile unit to another.
Follow the steps:
1. Press the key at the mobile unit
during a call. The external caller will be
put into a waiting loop.
2. Enter the desired mobile number between
1 and 5.
3. The dialed mobile unit will ring. The name
of the dialing mobile unit will be shown on
the display.
4. Receive the call with .
5. If desired, a conversation with the dialed
user can take place. You can also hang
up before the user picks up. In this case
the call will be directly re-directed.
6. Press the key to end the call, the
caller in the waiting loop will now be trans-
ferred automatically to the other caller.
If you want to cancel the transfer, press
the key again and now you can talk
again to the external caller.
The call will be transferred back if the dialed
mobile units does not answer within a cer-
tain time.

Save toll at remote inquiry with the TAM
In toll saver mode, incoming calls will be an-
sweredafter5ringsuntiltherstnewmes-
sage was recorded. After this, the answering
machine answers already after 3 rings. This
is advantageous if you try to start a remote
inquiry. If the answering machine does not
answer after the 4th ring, then no message
was recorded and you can hang up before
you must pay for the call. If the answering
machine answers after 3 rings, then a new
message was recorded.

A condential four digit secret number is
required to access your messages from an
external phone. The default secret ID num-

A tape symbol will be shown on the display
and the letter symbol is illuminated on the
Base if somebody leaves a brief message.
This message is played back in the same
manner as the playback of an answering
machine message.

SOS functions (MT)
This part of the instructions covers the SOS
functions of the mobile unit.
The mobile unit is equipped with a simple
SOS function. A freely programmable num-
ber will be called when pressing the SOS
button on the back. Only one number can
be stored.
Program SOS number
Press the SOS button on the back. If you
have not yet entered a number, then you will
be asked to enter the number now and con-
rmwith"Select".
The number is now in the phone book under
"SOS". This is where you can also change
the number.
If the phone does not work
General information
Please ensure that the phone cable is un-
damaged and correctly plugged in. Remove
possible existing accessories, extension ca-
bles and other phones. If the phone works
afterwards, then the fault was caused by a
different device.
Try to connect the phone at a neighbor’s
house. If the phone works there, then your
phone connection is possibly defective. Call
the service department.
The phone does not work.
• Please ensure that the the power supply
is correctly plugged into the phone and
the electrical outlet.
• Please ensure that the the phone cable
is correctly plugged into the phone and
the phone socket.
• Connect a different phone to your phone
connection. If this phone works, then
your phone is probably defective.
• Only use the original cable or a phone
cablewithinternationalcongurations.
Warning tone during a call
• The batteries must be recharged
- put the mobile unit into the charger.
• The range of the phone was exceeded
- move the mobile unit closer to the base
station.
Phone number will not be displayed
• The phone number display must be sup-
ported by your phone company.
• The phone number display does not
work if an extension line has been
installed.

Appendix
Maintenance and care
The phone does not need maintenance.
In case of contamination, please clean the
device now and then with a soft, clean and
slightly moist cloth. Never use alcohol, thin-
ner or other organic solvents. The phone
should not be subjected for a longer period
to direct solar radiation and in addition it
should be protected against high heat, hu-
midity or strong mechanical vibrations.
Warranty
The phone provides a high operating safety.
Please contact your specialty retailer or con-
tact the manufacturer directly in case that
failures occur despite proper assembly and
operation. The warranty service includes the
free repair as well as the free return ship-
ment. A prerequisite is the transport of the
device in the original packing, therefore do
not throw it away. The warranty expires for
damages that are caused by improper han-
dling or repair attempts by unauthorized per-
sons (destruction of the quality seal). War-
ranty repairs will only be performed when
sending the completed warranty card and
a copy of the invoice/sales slip by the spe-
cialty retailer.
