6.4.4 Fuelfilter maintenance

Gasoline is extremely flammable and is es-

plosive under certain conditions. Do not smoke or allow

lames or sparksin the area.

Checkthe fuelfilterforwateraccumulationor sediment.

Ifthefuelfiltercontainswateraccumulationorsediment,taketheen-

gineto yourauthorizedHondaenginedealer.

6.4.5 Sparkplugservice

Recommendedsparkplugs:

BPR5ES(NGK)-W16EPR-U(DENSO).

ZFR5F(NGK)

Never use a spark plugs of incorrect heat range.

Toensureproperengineoperation,thesparkplugsmustbepro-perly

gappedand freeof deposits.

1.Remove the sparkplugcaps and useaspark plug wrench (1) to

removeeachsparkplug.

If the engine has been running, the muffler

will be very hot.Be careful notto touch the muffler.

2. Visuallyinspectthesparkplugs.Discardthesparkplugifthereis

apparentwear,oriftheinsulatoriscrackedorchipped.Cleanthe

sparkplugs withawirebrushiftheyaretobereused.

3. Measurethe pluggap(2)withafeelergauge.Correctasneces-

sarybybendingthesideelectrode.Thegapshouldbe:0.700.80

mm(0.028 0.031in).

4. Checkthatthesparkplugwasherisingoodconditionandthread

thespark pluginbyhandtopreventcross-threading.

6.4.3 Aircleanerservice

Never use gasoline or low flash point sol-

ventsforcleaningtheaircleanerelement.Afireorexplosion

ould result.

Never run the engine without the air cleaner.

Rapid engine wear will result from contaminants, such as dust

and dirt being drawn into the engine.

emove thetwo aircleaner coverbolts(1a) fromtheair cleaner

cover,andremovethecover.

Removethepaperelement(3)fromtheaircleanercase.Remove

thefoamelement(4)fromtheaircleanercover.

Pullthetab (11)onthelid(12)oftheair filtertothereleaseposi-

tionand removethelid.

Releasethetwosnaptabs(13)fromtheelementholder,thenre-

movetheelementholder(14)andtakeoffthefoamfilterelement

fromtheelementholder.Removethepaperfilterelement(16).

2. Clearthe airfilterelementsiftheyaretobereused.

• Foam element (4-15): Clean in hot soapy water soapy water,

rinse andthenlet dry completely.Orclean innon-flammable sol-

ventandletdry.Immersethefilterelementincleanengineoil,then

squeezeittoexpeltheexcessoil.Iftoomuchoilisleftinthefoam,

theengine willsmokewhenit isstartedup.

• Paper element (3-16):Paththe filterelementseveraltimesona

hard surfacetoremove dustorblow compressed air on it(atnot

more than 2.1 kgf/cm

) from the clean side facing the engine.

Neveruseabrushtoremovedirtasitmaycauseittopenetratethe

fibres.Replacethepaperfilterelementwhenitisexcessivelydirty.

3. Wipedirtfromtheinsideoftheaircleanercase(5-17)andcover,

usingamoistrag.Becarefultopreventdirtfromenteringtheclean

chamber(6-18) thatleadsto thecarburetor.

4. Reinstalltheaircleaner elementsandthecover.

: Tightenthetwoaircleaner

coverbolts(1a)securely.

: Hookthelatchtabs(11)securely.

Do not allow dust, dirt, and debris to enter the

clean chamber (air cleaner case) when servicing the air cleaner.
