Operation
Freezing food
To maintain the taste and nutritional value of your food and to make
sure your freezer does not use too much electricity and the freezer
compartment does not need to be defrosted unnecessarily often,
please note the following points:
Frozen food requires an even storage temperature of -18°C.
Place a fridge/freezer thermometer in one of the drawers to
check the right temperature.
The maximum volume of fresh food as indicated under ‘Freezing
capacity’ can be frozen within 24 hours. (See chapter ‘Technical
specifications’ on the back cover.)
Only freeze good quality food that has been prepared, split into
portions and packaged as appropriate for its properties.
Divide your food into small portions so you can quickly and effi-
ciently freeze it, and quickly defrost it again.
Raw or prepared meat, poultry and fish should be frozen in
household-sized portions and defrosted later. When defrosting
frozen food ensure that it does not sit in its own thawing liquid.
Freeze fresh and prepared food dry and unseasoned. This ex-
tends the shelf life.
To make sure frozen food does not dry out, take on a strange
taste or leak, use robust packaging material that is air-tight and
water-tight, is not too stiff and can be closed easily and labelled.
If possible, use special plastic containers for freezing or stand-
ard food wrap.
Observe the manufacturers instructions for storing ready frozen
food.
Label your food with the date of freezing if no best before date
is provided.
When storing fresh food, make sure that it does not come into
contact with food that is already frozen, as this food may other-
wise defrost.
Allow prepared food to cool before freezing. This not only saves
energy, but it also prevents excessive frost formation in the
freezer.
Food expands when frozen so do not fill freezer containers full.
Use special insulated bags to transport frozen food. This pre-
vents the frozen food from defrosting during transport.
Preparing ice cubes
Fill an ice cube container ¾ full with fresh tap water and place
it horizontally in the freezer. Let the water cool off over several
hours.
The ice cubes are best removed by bending the ice cube con-
tainer slightly or holding it under running water for a short while.
