2. Quick arithmetic pirates
Who is the quickest arithmetic pirate and wins the most valuable gold coins?
Preparation of the Game
Put the treasure chest in the center of the table.
Place all gold coins on the table with the numbers face down. Mix them,
uncover any 10 coins and put one in each compartment of the chest.
Put the remaining 10 coins in a pile face down and place the pile next to
the treasure chest.
Each player gets a pirate and the
corresponding colored pirate disk.
Place the pirate in front of you; the
color indicates during the game
which pirate disk belongs to whom.
Get your own pirate disk ready.
Put any treasure chest card in the
center of the table.
Place the arithmetics disk next to
the treasure chest.
Get both cannon balls ready.
The remaining game material is not needed for this game.
How to Play
Now you have to be quick at calculating as only the quickest arithmetic
pirate gets a gold coin from the chest as a reward for the right solution.
The bravest pirate starts the game. If you can’t agree, the oldest player
starts and is the first captain. They take both cannon balls into the hand
and throw them from a short distance into the bottom part of the chest.
The cannon balls have landed in a compartment of the chest. Which
numbers do the gold coins there show?
All players simultaneously do the operation but each on their own -
adding the two numbers of the gold coins.
Watch out! If both balls have landed in one and the same compartment
you have to double the number.
