- For machines on wheels: always scarify across the
hillside, never uphill or downhill. –
- Please, be especially careful when you change the
running direction on hillsides.
- Do not scarify on overly steep hillsides.
- Be especially careful when you reverse the
scarifier or when you pull it up to yourself.
- Stop the scarifier blade, if the scarifier has to be
tilted in case of transportation over a different
surface than grass and when the scarifier is
moved to and from the surface to be scarified.
- Never use the scarifier with damaged protection
devices or protective grids or without any attached
protection devices, for instance impact plates
and/or moss and grass collection devices.
- Do not change the regulation settings of the
engine or do not turn the engine over. –
- Start the engine carefully according to the
instructions of the manufacturer. Mind keeping
sufficient distance between the feet and the
scarifier.
- When you start the engine the scarifier may not be
tilted, unless the scarifier has to be lifted in the
process. In that case tilt it only as far as it is
absolutely necessary, and only on the side averted
from the user. –
- Never move your hands or feet to or under turning
parts. Always keep distance to the emission hole.-
- Never lift or carry a sarcifier while the engine is
running.-
- Put the engine down und pull the spark plug
socket: Before you release the locking bar or
remove the plugging in the emission tube. Before
you check the scarifier, clean it or work on it.-
- If a foreign object was hit, search the scarifier for
damages und and carry out the necessary repairs
before you start over and work with the scarifier
again. –
- If the scarifier starts to vibrate in an unusual way,
an immediate check-up is essential. –
- Turn off the engine if you remove yourself from the
scarifier or before you refuel. –
- The fuel tap has to be closed: position off or 0.
Application according to regulations.
What is Scarifying?
Scarifying is a deep cleansing of the lawn. The vertical
section releases the lawn from tomentum, moss and flat
growing weeds. Air, water and nutrients can come through to
the fine grass roots again.
Why should you scarify?
All these different weather periods through out the year lead
to accumulation of dead and dry weeds and moss which
cause felting of the lawn. The grass roots can not absorb any
nutrients, water or air sufficiently. The lawn wastes away.
The vertical section opens the ground, removes tomentum
and that way makes sure that the grass will be supplied
With nutrients a better way.
How do you scarify?
In case of heavily felted lawns you should scarify once
lengthwise and once across. These works should be done
twice a year. The best time is in spring, when the ground is
not frozen anymore and in late summer until the end of
September. You should not scarify any later than that, so
that the resistibility of the lawn remains for a possible strong
winter. The emitted material must be removed from the lawn
in any case. After scarifying it has to be taken care of the
ground not to dry up for 4 or 5 days, even not on the surface.
To avoid burn outs caused by intense sunrays, dryness has
to be faced seriously. The gasoline scarifier is suitable for
any private use in house and hobby garden. As scarifier for
house and hobby garden are only such to be considered as
that are not used for longer than 50 hours a year and that
are mainly used for the care of grass or lawns, but not for
public grounds, parks, sports grounds as well as not for
agriculture and forestry. Sticking to the instructions of the
manufacturer is essential for the correct use of the scarifier.
The instruction manual also contains terms of operating,
machine care and maintenance.
Caution! Because of physical danger of the user the
scarifier may not be used for the following activities: for
trimming of bushes, for cutting and breaking of cirruses, of
lawns on rooftops or in flower boxes and for breaking of tree
and hedge segments. Furthermore can the scarifier not be
used as a motor hoe for levelling bumps in the ground, like
for instance molehills. For safety reasons the scarifier may
not be used as a drive unit for other tools and tool kits of any
kind.
Remaining risks and precautions
Inappropriate local lighting.
Insufficient lighting brings out a high safety hazard.
Make sure to have sufficient lighting while working with the
device.
Disposal
Advice for disposal can be read from the pictograms on the
device and on the package. A description of each meaning
can be found in the chapter “designations”.
User Requirements
The user must read the instruction manual carefully before
usage of the device.
Qualification
Besides an extensive introduction by a competent person, no
special qualification for the usage of the device is necessary.
Minimum age
The device may only be used by persons not younger than
the age of 16. For the only exception that the usage is
carried out in the course of an apprenticeship for learning the
ability while being supervised by an instructor, a youth is
admitted to usage.
Setting up / initial operation
Remove the packaging from the scarifier and mount the
bottom pillar first and then the upper pillar with the screws
and knurled nuts provided. Now attach the moss collection
bag, which can be hooked into the body of the device when
the carriage cover is being lifted.
Appliance (Fig 1-4)
Caution: Check oil level before each operation!
The Quality of the motor oil is essential for the correct engine
surge and service life. Only use suitable and top quality
lubricants, improper lubricants destroy the device and lead to
immediate expiration of the warranty (a partial synthetic multi
purpose lubricant of the specification SAE 10 W 40 is
recommended). For delivery reasons it might happen that
there is no or only little motor oil in the machine (filling for in-
shop testing). The oil level has to be checked before each
operation in any case! For the check-up and for correction
of the oil level put the device in a horizontal position on even
ground. Always care about the environment when you empty
