SET-UP AND SAFETY
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Please note the following instructions when set-
ting up the Smart Receiver:
7
This device is intended to receive TV and radio
broadcasts, to record these broadcasts on me-
dia such as USB and similar, and to playback
such recordings. All other uses are expressly
prohibited.
7
If you want to install the device on wall shelves
or in cabinets please ensure that enough air
circulation is provided. At least 10 cm distance
should be left at the sides of the device.
7
Do not cover the device with items such as
newspapers, tablecloth, curtains, etc. Do not
place the device on couch, carpet and similar
surfaces. Because of the blocked air vents, the
electrical components will overheat. This situa-
tion will lead to a device failure.
7
During the installation of the device, please
consider the fact that the furnitures are usu-
ally treated with various varnish and plastic
substances containing chemical additives.
Such additives may cause corrosion at the
foot pieces of the device. In case of such a
corrosion, irreparable stains may form on the
device surface.
7
If the device is subjected to immediate heat
changes, such as moving from a cold environ-
ment to a warm room, please wait for at least
two hours before operating it.
7
This device is intended for closed environ-
ments. If you are going to operate the device
outdoors, protect it against drippings or water
splashes that may cause humidity.
7
Operate the device in moderate environments
only.
7
Do not place the device at locations near heat-
ing units or subject to direct sunlight, this will
hinder the operation of the cooling system.
7
Do not place items containing liquids such as
vases on the device.
7
To prevent the spread of fire,
keep candles or other open
flames away from this prod-
uct at all times.
7
At no condition open the case of the device.
Guarantee claims based on misuse will be re-
jected.
7
Thunderstorms are a danger to all electri-
cal devices. Even if the device is turned off,
it can be damaged with a lightning strike to
the mains. Unplug the device during thunder-
storms.
7
Do not use abrasive cleaning agents that may
damage the case. Clean the device with a
clean and dry cloth. Unplug the device before
cleaning.
7
Plug the device into the mains socket only after
the peripherals are connected. Ensure that the
mains socket can easily be reached.
7
The Smart Receiver can only be operated with
the AC/DC adapter provided with the prod-
uct.
7
If the mains cable or the AC/DC adapter is
damaged then it should be replaced by the
manufacturer, aftersales service or an equally
competent, certified person (preferably an
electrician) to prevent hazards.
7
Please use your Smart Receiver at a location
as far as possible from cellular phones, micro-
wave ovens and similar devices operating with
high frequency waves. Otherwise your HD
Digital Receiver may malfunction because of
such radio waves.
7
Do not expose the batteries to excessive heat
such as direct sunlight, fire, etc. Replace the
batteries only pairwise.
7
Do not use old and unused batteries together.
7
Only replace the exhausted batteries with
those having the same model, value and prop-
erties.
7
By ensuring proper disposal of these batteries,
you will have contributed in prevention of po-
tential hazards on the environment and human
health that may arise from inappropriate dis-
posal of the batteries.

Unique features of your Smart
Receiver
7
Your device enables you to receive and watch
digital stations (over DVB-S, DVB-T and DVB-
C), including High Definition (HD) ones.
High Definition digital television channels are
available in most countries right now.
7
Although this device meets the current DVB-S,
DVB-T and DVB-C standards as of April 2010,
its compatibility with future DVB-S digital satel-
lite broadcasts, DVB-T digital terrestrial broad-
casts and DVB-C digital cable broadcasts is
not guaranteed.
7
The TV guide tells you of any schedule
changes at short notice, and provides an over-
view of all the stations’ schedules for the next
few days. Detailed information on the indi-
vidual stations – if it is provided by the broad-
caster – is also available in the electronic pro-
gramme guide.
7
You can connect various data media such as
an external hard drive, a USB memory stick or
a digital camera to the USB socket. Using the
file browser, you can then select and play the
file formats you want (for example, MP4, MP3
or JPEG data).
7
Using the time shift function, you can quickly
and easily pause a programme using the re-
mote control and resume it at a later stage.
The programme is recorded in an external
data medium.
7
When using a USB hub for connection expan-
sion, we recommend using an active version
with its own power supply.
7
You can record any digital TV channels you
choose.
The TV channels are converted by the televi-
sion and saved on an external data medium
which is connected to the USB socket.
The saved programmes can be called up and
played from the archive on the external data
medium at any time.
You can also play a programme from the ar-
chive while recording another.
More information on recording and playing
TV programmes can be found from page 46.
GENERAL INFORMATION
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7
With the Inter@ctive feature, your device can
use Internet application when your device is
connected to the Internet. You can visit popu-
lar video and photo sharing sites as well as
social networks with these applications.
7
DLNA feature allows you to use a wired or
wireless (with wireless USN network device)
local network to access your content that were
recorded with DLNA compatible devices we
use at our daily lives such as a PC, mobile
phone or NAS (Network Attached Storage)
which are operated as DMS (Digital Medial
Server). Thanks to DMR feature, when DLNA
application has been started, you can auto-
matically start and stop media playing on de-
vices with DMC feature.
7
Devices that contain and serve video, mu-
sic or image files are called Server. This
HD Digital Receiver receives video, mu-
sic and picture files from server via home
network and enables you to access those
media even if you are in another room.
You need to have a DLNA compatible device
such as DMS (Digital Media Server) PC, Mo-
bile Phone or NAS (Network attached stor-
age) in order to access your home network.

GENERAL INFORMATION
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Receiving digital channels
7
You require a satellite antenna to receive
digital satellite channels (DVB-S).
7
You require a digital roof antenna or indoor
antenna (passive or active indoor antenna
with its own power supply) to receive digital
television channels (DVB-T).
7
If you wish to receive digital television chan-
nels via your cable system (DVB-C), the an-
tenna cable for your cable operator must be
connected to the television set.
7
Unlike analogue broadcasting, not every
channel has its own transmission frequency.
Instead, several channels are grouped into
what are known as bouquets on a regional or
national level. You can find the current trans-
mission information on teletext from various
broadcasters, or by consulting a current TV
guide or the Internet.
7
Various digital television channels from private
broadcasters are encrypted (DVB-S, DVB-T
and DVB-C). Watching these channels and
the recording and playback functions are only
possible with the appropriate CI module and
a SmartCard. Ask your specialist dealer.
The range of channels available from the pub-
lic broadcasting institutions (ARD with EinsEx-
tra, EinsFestival or ZDF with ZDF Info and all
third party broadcasters) are not encrypted
and can be received without a SmartCard.
Grundig SCR system
7
Your Smart Receiver supports SCR system (Sat-
ellite Channel Router). If your antenna instal-
lation is equipped with an Single Cable Distri-
bution multiswitch, all television sets which are
connected on this antenna can receive the tele-
vision channels stand-alone.
Important notes on environmen-
tal protection
7
If you don´t use the Smart Receiverswitch it to
stand-by.
7
If you will not be using the Smart Receiver
for several days, it should be disconnected
from the mains for environmental and
safety reasons. Your device will not con-
sume energy in this condition.
However, if you have programmed different
timer recordings, a constant connection to the
power supply is required for recording these
programs.

Wireless network connection
1 The Smart Receiver includes a built-in Wire-
less WiFi Adapter to connect it to wireless
network.
NETWORK INSTALLATION
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Notes:
7
Wireless LAN adapter supports IEEE
802.11B/G and N communication pro-
tocols. We recommend you to use IEEE
802.11N protocol to obtain the best perfor-
mance in HD video playback over wireless
connection.
7
If you use a modem that supports IEEE
802.11B/G, video playback performance
may be poor when compared to a modem
that supports IEEE 802.11N since the data
transfer rate of IEEE 802.11B/G protocol is
lower
7
Please note that video playback perfor-
mance in a DLNA application on a wireless
local network and in a
Inter@ctive applica-
tions
on a network with internet connection
depends on the number of users on the net-
work as it is the case in every wireless net-
work.
7
It is recommended to switch off the equip-
ment that are not in use in home network in
order to avoid unnecessary network traffic.
7
Placing the modem or wireless network
sharer on an elevated location will increase
the wireless connection reception strength.
7
Wireless connection reception strength may
vary depending on the type of the modem
and the distance between the modem and
Smart Receiver.
7
Modem must be transmitting its SSID in or-
der to establish a wireless connection. The
Smart Receiver can not connect to a network
without SSID.
Wireless network settings
There are two ways of making the wireless net-
work settings.
A Automatic connection,
all data regarding connection settings (»IP
Address«, »Netmask«, »Gateway« and
»DNS«) are obtained from modem automati-
cally.
B Manual connection,
all data regarding connection settings (»IP
Address«, »Netmask«, »Gateway« and
»DNS«) must be configured manually.

matically, and thus you are not required to enter
those values manually.

USB RECORDING
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Information on recording and
reproducing television pro-
grammes
7
Recording and reproducing programmes,
this can only be done with digital stations
(DVB-S, DVB-T and DVB-C).
7
The digital stations (DVB-S, DVB-T and DVB-
C) you are able to record and playback
also depend on the broadcasting station.
7
Recording and reproducing programmes, as
well as the TimeShift function can only be
carried out using an external data medium
(hard drive or USB stick).
The data medium must have a capacity of at
least 2 GB.
7
Recordings can be made with most data me-
diums on the market. However, we cannot
guarantee operation for all data media.
7
If you record a programme on an external
data medium, you can only watch it on your
device.
You will not be able to watch this pro-
gramme on any other device.
7
If you send your device to be repaired and
hardware components need to be replaced,
you might not be able to play the recordings
again on the repaired device.
7
Grundig isn't responsible for any loss of data
stored on any external storage device.
7
For proper playback please use the PRnP
player. Pressing »REC.LIST« opens the
menu »RECORDED FILES«, then select and
playback the event.
Possible limitations when using
an external data medium
Depending on the broadcaster, you may experi-
ence various restrictions on some of the functions
from some television channels.
GRUNDIG has no influence on
these restrictions.
Recording a programme on the external data
medium can be disabled by the broadcaster.
If the message »URI* protected! PVR function
is blocked« appears on the screen, then recor-
ding or timeshift is restricted (one recording
possible) or disabled (recording not possible)
by the broadcaster.
* URI = User right information (Copyright in-
formation).
If you record and save a programme on the
archive of an external data medium, playback
can be restricted.
The broadcaster can allow you to view this
programme one or more times, but it may
onlyv be available for a certain period of time.
Programmes not suitable for minors will requ-
ire the input of a PIN number immediately be-
fore recording starts. If this authorisation is not
given, the recording may not start.
Copying a programme from a digital television
channel onto a video or DVD recorder using
the »TV SCART« socket (analogue picture/
sound signal) can also be restricted by the
broadcaster. Prerequisite is that your device
supports the copying function.

Connecting external data media
Notes:
7
Before connecting the external data medium
it is recommended to switch the Smart Re-
ceiver to stand-by mode.
7
Before removing the external data medium,
the Smart Receiver must be switched to
standby, so that no data loss occurs.
7
Your Smart Receiver features two USB sock-
ets, »USB« and »USB (HDD)«.
»USB (HDD)« is used to connect data media,
which require an additional power supply
– for example, external hard disks.
1 Insert the USB plug of the USB memory stick
into the »USB« socket of the Smart Receiver;
or
connect the »USB (HDD)« socket of the
Smart Receiver and the corresponding sock-
et of the data medium (external hard disk)
using a USB cable.
Notes:
7
»USB« interface of the device supports
500mA current according to the USB stan-
dard. Devices such as external hard disk
and etc. that consume more power can only
be connected to the »USB (HDD)« USB in-
terface of the Smart Receiver.
7
If you are using a power cable for the ex-
ternal hard disk that you have connected to
the »USB (HDD)« interface, then the power
cable of the external hard disk must also be
unplugged when the device is turned off.
7
You must not disconnect the USB Device
from the Smart Receiver while a file on the
USB Device is being read by the device.

Time Shift – pausing the pro-
grammes

watching. This is a useful feature. For instance, if
the phone rings when you are watching a movie,
you can pause the movie and resume it after the
call without missing nothing.
The last scene that was frozen is displayed on
the television and time shift is recorded into the
external data media.
In Time Shift mode, you can only record as much
as the free memory space on the external data
media. When the Time Shift starts, recording
time is calculated and displayed based on the
free space.
1 Press »

The file formats
Your HD Digital Receiver supports the file for-
mats below over USB port:
Video data
Designed for video compression / codec pro-
cess, reducing storage area without compromis-
ing video quality.
Your HD Digital Receiver allows you to play com-
pressed video data with DIVX, XVID, H.264/
MPEG-4 AVC(L4.1, Ref. Frames:4), MPEG-4,
MPEG-2, MPEG-1, MJPEG, MOV standards.
File extensions supported by the device: “.avi”,
“mkv”, “.mp4”, “.ts”, “.mov”, “.mpg”, “.dat”,
“.vob”. In addition to video data, these files also
contain audio data compressed and "packaged"
by using MP3, AAC or Dolby Digital.
Audio data
You HD Digital Receiver can play audio data
coded with MP3, AAC standards.
MP3 indicates MPEG-1 Volume Level 3 and is
based on the MPEG-1 standard that was devel-
oped by MPEG (Motion Picture Expert Group).
AAC indicates the Advanced Audio Coding and
is developed by MPEG. AAC provides higher
audio quality with the same data rate (bit rate).
These formats enable audio files to be saved on
storage devices with a sound quality similar to
that of a CD.
File extensions supported by the device: “.mp3”,
“.mp2”, “.wav”, “.m4a”, “.aac”.
Audio files can be organised into folders and
subfolders similar to the files on a computer.
Picture data
Your HD Digital Receiver can display picture
data in JPEG, PNG and BMP formats.
JPEG stands for Joint Picture Experts Group. This
process was designed to compress picture files.
PNG and BMP are designed to compress pic-
ture data without any losses.
Picture files can be saved onto a data medium
along with other file types.
Such files can be organised as folders and sub-
folders.
