Application
This test may be performed for safety class II devices with ex-
posed conductive parts where reservations exist regarding the
measurement of insulation resistance, or if not possible to inter-
rupt device operation.
The above mentioned conditions apply as well to measurements
at exposed conductive parts on safety class I devices which are
not connected to the protective conductor.
Definition
Current which flows from housing parts which are not connected
to the protective conductor via an external conductive connection
to earth or another part of the housing. Flow of current via the
protective conductor is excluded in this case.
The following designations are also common: housing leakage
current, probe current.
Measuring Method
The device under test is operated with mains power. Current
which flows to the protective conductor via exposed conductive
parts is measured. The measurements must be performed with
mains plug polarity in both directions. The AC or the DC compo-
nent of the current is measured.

• Measuring range: 300 A, 3 mA, 30 mA or auto
(automatic switching amongst the ranges)
• Test voltage Ut: 110 V ... 240 V,
• Selection of test voltage polarity: N/L or L/N
• Test current type: Eff (AC+DC), DC or AC
• Measurement duration: 5 s, 10 s, 15 s, 30 s or continuous
• Measurement type:
– Direct measuring method
– Differential current measuring method
– Equivalent leakage current measuring method
– Direct measurement with permanent connection
