The DECT network
The DECT network comprises the overall radio area of the multicell system in which the users can
make and receive calls using their handsets.
A specific DECT manager manages the whole or a part of the DECT network, one DM zone. It can
comprise one or more clusters.
Clusters
A cluster defines a set of base stations of a DECT manager that shall synchronise in order to
perform handover, roaming and overload balancing for handsets.
Synchronisation
Handover and overload balancing can only be provided by synchronised base stations.
Base stations follow a common synchronisation source in order to synchronise within a cluster.
This could be a base station of the cluster (sync level 1) or a common external synchronisation
source ( p. 49).
Handover A handset switches to a new base station during a call.
Roaming A handset in idle mode is connected to the DECT network via a new base.
Overload balancing A DECT connection (for a call or other administrative or customer
purpose) is not set up at the current base station, which is fully loaded
with active DECT or media connections, but via a neighbour base station,
which has free resources to setup/accept the new DECT connection.
Overload balancing is only possible inside a DECT manager zone.
