Proxy/Proxy-server
Computerprogramma dat in computernetwerken de gegevensuitwisseling tussen Cli-
ent en Server regelt. Als de telefoon een aanvraag doet aan de VoIP-server, dan doet
de proxy zich tegenover het toestel voor als server en tegenover de server als client.
Een proxy wordt via IP-adres/Domeinnaam en Poort geadresseerd

Quality of Service (QoS)
Kwaliteit van de service
Geeft de kwaliteit van de service in communicatienetwerken aan. Er worden verschil-
lende kwaliteitsklassen onderscheiden.
QoS is van invloed op de stroom van gegevenspakketten in het internet, bijvoorbeeld
door voorrang te geven aan gegevenspakketten, bandbreedtereservering en pakket-
optimalisering.
Bij VoIP-netwerken is QoS van invloed op de spraakkwaliteit. Als de totale infrastruc-
tuur (router, netwerkserver, enz.) beschikt over QoS, dan is de spraakkwaliteit hoger,
dat wil zeggen minder vertraging, minder echo, en minder ruis.

Registrar
De registrar beheert de huidige IP-adressen van de Netwerkgebruiker. Wanneer u
zich bij uw VoIP-provider aanmeldt, wordt uw huidige IP-adres op de registrar opge-
slagen. Daardoor bent u ook onderweg bereikbaar.

Radio Fixed Part
Basisstations in een multicel-DECT-netwerk.
RFPI
Radio Fixed Part Identity
Identificatie van een basisstation in het multicel-DECT-netwerk. De identificatie
bestaat onder andere uit het nummer (RPN) en een identificatie van de DECT-mana-
ger. De handset herkent hieraan met welk basisstation het verbonden is en tot welk
DECT-netwerk het behoort.
Roaming
De mogelijkheid van een deelnemer met een DECT-handset in alle radiocellen van het
DECT-netwerk oproepen te beantwoorden of tot stand te brengen.
ROM
Read Only Memory
Alleen-lezen geheugen.
Router
Stuurt gegevenspakketten binnen een netwerk en tussen verschillende netwerken via
de snelste route verder. Kan Ethernet-netwerken en WLAN verbinden. Kan Gateway
naar het internet zijn.
