LAN
Local Area Network
Netzwerk mit beschränkter räumlicher Ausdehnung. LAN kann kabellos (WLAN) und/oder
kabelgebunden (Ethernet) sein.
LDAP
Lightweight Directory Access Protocol
Verzeichnisdienst für die netzweite Verwaltung von Telefon- und Adressbüchern.
LDAP wird zur Speicherung und zum Wiederabruf von Informationen über einzelne Perso-
nen (z. B. Mitarbeiter) einer Organisation genutzt.
Lokale IP-Adresse
Die lokale oder private IP-Adresse ist die Adresse einer Netzkomponente im lokalen Netz-
werk (LAN). Sie kann vom Netzbetreiber beliebig vergeben werden. Geräte, die einen
Netzwerkübergang von einem lokalen Netzwerk zum Internet realisieren (Gateway oder
Router), haben eine private und eine öffentliche IP-Adresse.

MAC-Adresse
Media Access Control Address
Hardware-Adresse, durch die jedes Netzwerkgerät (z.B. Netzwerkkarte, Switch, Telefon)
weltweit eindeutig identifiziert werden kann. Sie besteht aus 6 Teilen (Hexadezimale Zah-
len), die mit „-“ voneinander getrennt werden (z.B. 00-90-65-44-00-3A).
Die Mac-Adresse wird vom Hersteller vergeben und kann nicht geändert werden.
Makeln
Makeln erlaubt es, zwischen zwei Gesprächspartnern oder einer Konferenz und einem ein-
zelnen Gesprächspartner hin und her zu schalten, ohne dass der jeweils wartende Teilneh-
mer mithören kann.
Mbps
Million Bits per Second
Einheit der Übertragungsgeschwindigkeit in einem Netzwerk.
MRU
Maximum Receive Unit
Definiert maximale Nutzdatenmenge innerhalb eines Datenpaketes.
MTU
Maximum Transmission Unit
Definiert maximale Länge eines Datenpaketes, das auf einmal über das Netzwerk trans-
portiert werden kann.
