What is the Gazelle Cabby intended for?

The Gazelle Cabby is a trendy, unisex cargo bike, designed for cycling comfortably and safely with your

child(ren). This cargo bike is very well suited for making both short and long trips.

What makes this cargo bike so unique?

Apart from the fact that it features a modern design and superior Gazelle riding characteristics, the

patented box of the Gazelle Cabby can be folded and even removed, so that the bike takes up little

space (in your shed or garage or on the pavement) when you park it.

Due it’s relatively low weight, and thanks to the application of 7 gears, it also takes less effort to ride this

bike than traditional cargo bikes.

What is the target group of the Gazelle Cabby?

Families with 1, 2 or 3 children in the age range from 0 to 6 years.

How many children can I take along on this cargo bike?

That depends on their age and the use of a Maxi-Cosi® baby seat.

Two children of up to 6 years old can fit on the bench seat. If the Maxi-Cosi® baby seat is attached to the

box in the highest position, an additional child can be taken along in the box in the Maxi-Cosi® baby

seat. Furthermore, a child seat can be mounted on the rear carrier.

From what age can children be taken along on the cargo bike?

From 0 years onwards – the smallest children can be safely transported in the Maxi-Cosi® baby seat if it is

clicked onto the suspended adaptor that was developed especially for this purpose.

What has Gazelle done to make this bike as safe as possible?

First, high-grade, durable materials were chosen. Furthermore, the bike must meet Gazelle’s strict quality

requirements. A solid, wide stand was chosen to ensure that the bike can’t fall over with normal use.

Standard, every bike is equipped with safety belts, in which the children must be buckled up. In

addition, a unique suspended Maxi-Cosi® baby seat adapter was developed for the tiniest ones.

To protect the bike itself against theft, every bike is fitted with a Gazelle/AXA Defender RL safety lock

(with anti-theft chip).

Is it allowed to cycle without the bench seat?

The bench seat in the box has 2 functions. Apart from the fact that it offers 1 or 2 children a place to

sit, the bench seat keeps the box opened up. Cycling with an open box without the bench seat is not

permitted.

Can I cycle with the box folded up?

Yes, absolutely. If you detach the bench seat from the box, place it on the bottom, fold up the box and

secure it with the Fold Lock, you can just ride your bike.

What do I have to do before I start riding my bike?

• Checkifyourbikeisingoodcondition.Ifthisisnotthecase,gototheyourGazelle-dealerfirst.

• Checkiftheboxisproperlyfixedtothebike(seemanual)andifthebenchseatisproperlyattached.

Obviously, you must place your children on the bench seat with their safety belts buckled.

• Ifyoutransportashoppingbaginthebox,seetoitthatitcan’tfalloverduringcycling.

• Alsobeawaretoturnthesteeringlocktothe“unlocked”position.Ifyouheara“rattlingsound”while

steering, the steering lock is still on. In that case, get off the bike, put it on its stand and unlock the

steering lock.

• Takethecargobikeoffitsstand,ensurethatthestandiskickedupproperly,andonlythengetonthe

bike. Do not get on the bike if it is still parked on the stand!

What is the maximum load the box can take?

75 kilos (165 pounds)

What materials is the Gazelle Cabby made of?

The bike is constructed from Gazelle quality components. The cage of the box is made of high-grade

aluminium tubes. The special canvas is made of Tarpaulin.

I have never ridden a cargo bike – what do I have to bear in mind?

The total length of the bike is 2.55 metres (8.4 feet), whereas a “regular” bike measures about 1.80 metres

(5.9 feet). The longer wheelbase makes the turning circle larger than normal. This is something you will

have to get used to, but riding your bike for 5 minutes is all it takes to do so.

What are the advantages of a suspended Maxi-Cosi® baby seat adapter?

Thanks to the suspension, the biggest shocks experienced during cycling (due to e.g. a rough surface)

are absorbed by the adapters. As a result, your child sits more comfortably in the Maxi-Cosi® baby seat.

How should the Maxi-Cosi® baby seat be attached?

The Maxi-Cosi® baby seat adapters can be attached to 2 positions on the frame. Position 1 is on the

upper side tube. Position 2 is on the lower side tube of the box. For attachment of the Maxi-Cosi® baby

seat adapters, we refer you to the manual. Be aware, however, that you mount both adapters in the

same direction (facing you). Of course you can also ask your Gazelle-dealer to do it for you!

When do I use what position for the Maxi-Cosi® baby seat adapter?

If you’re only taking a Maxi-Cosi® baby seat with child with you, you can attach the Maxi-Cosi® baby seat

adapters to both positions. If you also wish to transport children on the bench seat, you must use the

upper position for the Maxi-Cosi® baby seat in order to create sufficient space for the legs of the seated

children.

How do I know if the Maxi-Cosi® baby seat is properly attached to the adapter?

If you push the Maxi-Cosi® baby seat into the adapter, you will hear a “click” when it is properly fixed.

If this is not the case, it might be that the Maxi-Cosi® baby seat is not secured in the adapter but placed

next to either the right or left one. Then you must re-attach the Maxi-Cosi® baby seat. Make sure that the

handle is in the upright position to offer extra protection to your child.

What options for the cargo bike are available?
