d Setting the Flash (Intelligent Flash)
Flash photography is useful for taking pictures at night or
indoor dark locations. Choose from 6 flash modes
according to the type of shot. See p.67 for information on
the available Shooting modes.
MEMO
By calculating subject distance and brightness, the camera
automatically adjusts the flash amount and sensitivity to
suit shooting conditions. This maintains consistent balance
of bright/dark areas across the image in low-light
conditions (dimly-lit room, etc). The Intelligent Flash feature
guarantees consistent results when using the flash.
CAUTION Notes on using flash
If the shutter speed is set to a speed faster than 1/1000
sec., the image may appear dark even if the flash is
used.
If pressing the shutter button while the flash is charging
(indicator lamp blinking orange), the picture will be
taken without the flash (when using [AUTO] and ).
The flash charging time may increase when the
batteries are low on charge.
When taking a picture using the flash, the image may
disappear and go dark briefly due to flash charging. The
indicator lamp blinks orange during charging.
The flash fires several times (pre-flashes and the main
flash). Do not move the camera until the picture is
taken.
1 Press the Flash pop-up button to pop up the
flash.
2 Select the flash mode setting.
MEMO
When pressing the shutter button down halfway, b
appears on the screen before the flash fires.
Use this mode for ordinary photography.
The flash fires as required by the shooting conditions.
[ AUTO FLASH] (not displayed)
[ RED EYE REDUCTION]
This mode is suitable for shooting portraits in
low-light conditions.
Use this mode to minimize red-eye (eyes
appear in red in the finished photo).
The flash setting changes each
time you press d (q).
When [ FACE
DETECTIONbREMOVAL ON] is set.
