Geachte gebruiker,
Hartelijk dank voor de aanschaf van het Freecom Dual Drive Network Center. Het Freecom
Dual Drive Network Center biedt u een eenvoudig te gebruiken netwerkopslag en de
mogelijkheid om het apparaat te gebruiken als DLNA/UPnP Media Server en als Torrent
Download Client.
Gelieve in acht te nemen dat deze handleiding een algemene handleiding is voor meerdere
producten van Freecom. De productafbeeldingen in deze handleiding kunnen afwijken
van het door u gekochte product.

Algemeen
Voor de juiste werking van het apparaat moet uw systeem moet over de volgende hardware
en software beschikken.
Systeemvereisten
Voor het werken met de Freecom Dual Drive Network Center heeft u de volgende
componenten nodig:

256 MB RAM (Vista / 7: 512 MB RAM) of hoger
LAN (1000 Base-T Full Duplex-verbinding aanbevolen)
CD-ROM-station
Internetverbinding voor de online garantieregistratie en het downloaden van
softwareupdates.

Uw Freecom Dual Drive Network Center is voorgeprogrammeerd en geconfigureerd als
RAID 0 en kan dus onmiddellijk worden gebruikt. Daardoor is de maximale geheugenplaats
beschikbaar. Indien u waarde hecht aan maximale gegevensbeveiliging, dan raden wij u de
configuratie als RAID 1 aan. In de modus "RAID 1" worden uw harde schijven gespiegeld,
zodat enkel de helft van de geheugenplaats beschikbaar is. Als er een harde schijf uitvalt,
kunnen uw gegevens van de tweede harde schijf hersteld worden. Meer informatie over de
configuratie van de harde schijf kunt u vinden in hoofdstuk "Harde schijven configureren"
van deze handleiding.

Voorzorgsmaatregelen
Neem de volgende voorzorgsmaatregelen in acht om er voor te zorgen dat uw Freecom
Dual Drive Network Center goed functioneert. Anders kunt u uw aanspraak op garantie
verliezen en de Freecom Dual Drive Network Center beschadigen.
Laat de Freecom Dual Drive Network Center niet vallen en voorkom andere of plotselinge
mechanische schokken omdat dit ertoe kan leiden dat gegevens verloren gaan en het
netwerkstation wordt beschadigd.
Gebruik de Freecom Dual Drive Network Center niet bij temperaturen onder 10°C of
boven 35°C.
Als de Freecom Dual Drive Network Center van een koude naar een warmere omgeving
gebracht wordt, dient u het station in de nieuwe omgeving te laten acclimatiseren,
voordat u het apparaat gebruikt. Als u dit niet doet kan condensatie aan de binnenkant
van het station ontstaan, wat defecten kan veroorzaken.
Plaats geen vloeistoffen of drankjes op de Freecom Dual Drive Network Center. Als
vloeistoffen gemorst worden en in contact komen met de elektronica in het station,
zal dit het station beschadigen en defecten veroorzaken.
Gebruik de Freecom Dual Drive Network Center niet in een stoffige omgeving. Stof
in de behuizing kan interne elektronische componenten beschadigen en leiden tot
defecten.
Gebruik alleen de stroomadapter die bij de Freecom Dual Drive Network Center is
geleverd.
Openen van de Freecom Dual Drive Network Center leidt tot garantieverval.

Hoofdstuk: Hardware Installatie
1. Sluit de connector van de kabel* aan op de Freecom Dual Drive Network Center.
2. Optioneel: Sluit de kabel van de netspanningsadapter aan op de Freecom Dual Drive
Network Center en steek vervolgens de stekker in het stopcontact.
3. Verbind het andere einde van de connector van de kabel* met een netwerkrouter.
Let op: uw router moet geconfigureerd zijn als DHCP-server. Meer informatie over hoe
u de DHCP-serverfunctie van uw router gebruikt, kunt u vinden in de handleiding van
uw router.
4. Optioneel: indien uw apparaat voorzien is van een netschakelaar, dient u het apparaat
vóór het gebruik in te schakelen.
* Gebruik de interfacekabel van uw apparaat (bijv. USB, eSATA, Firewire, LAN) voor de aansluiting op de PC /
Mac.

TCP/IP-instellingen in Windows XP controleren
1. Open "Start" -> "Settings" (instellingen) -> "Control Panel" (configuratiescherm).

Hoofdstuk: Software Installatie
Freecom Network Storage Assistant software installatie (PC)
De Freecom Network Storage Assistant is bedoeld voor snelle herkenning en de algemene
inrichting van uw Dual Drive Network Center. Hij toont u alle in het netwerk beschikbare
Dual Drive Network Center's en helpt u bij het maken van netwerkmappen.
1. Leg de Manual & Application CD-ROM in uw CD/DVD-station. De CD-ROM bevat
handleidingen en applicatiesoftware, inclusief de "Freecom Network Storage Assistant".
Zodra de CD-ROM in de CD-romstation wordt gelegd, verschijnt er automatisch een
venster op het scherm. Indien dit niet het geval is, dient u als volgt te handelen:

3. Dubbelklik op de CD-romstation waarin de CD-ROM is geplaatst. Nu wordt het
startscherm geopend.
4. Klik op "Software Installation" -> "FNS Assistant". Het installeren wordt nu gestart. Volg
de instructies op het scherm op en bevestig met "Volgende" om met het installeren
verder te gaan. Klik na beëindiging van de installatie op "Quit" om het menuscherm te
verlaten.
5. Start de"Freecom Network Storage Assistant" door dubbel op het "FNSA"-pictogram
op uw desktop te klikken of via "Start" -> "Programma’s".
6. Controleer in de FNSA of uw Dual Drive Network Center door het systeem werd herkend.
Dit kan even duren. Als uw Dual Drive Network Center niet meteen werd herkend, klik
dan op "Search again for available Freecom Network Storag devices" (opnieuw zoeken
naar Network Storag) om het zoeken naar de Dual Drive Network Center te herhalen.

De Freecom Network Storage Assistant is bedoeld voor snelle herkenning en de algemene

2. De CD pictogram verschijnt niet op uw Mac-desktop.
3. Dubbelklik op het CD pictogram. Het Freecom startmenu verschijnt.
4. Klik op "Software Installation" -> "FNS Assistant". Het installeren wordt nu gestart. Volg
de instructies op het scherm op en bevestig met "Volgende" om met het installeren
verder te gaan. Klik na beëindiging van de installatie op "Quit" om het menuscherm te
verlaten
5. Start de "Freecom Network Storage Assistant". Dat vindt u onder "Programma's" —>
"Utilities".
6. Controleer in de FNSA of uw Dual Drive Network Center door het systeem werd herkend.
Dit kan even duren. Als uw Dual Drive Network Center niet meteen werd herkend, klik
dan op "Search again for available Freecom Network Storag devices" (opnieuw zoeken
naar Network Storag) om het zoeken naar de Dual Drive Network Center te herhalen.
7. Een nauwkeurige functiebeschrijving van de Freecom Network Storage Assistant staat
in hoofdstuk "De Freecom Network Storage Assistant".

Hoofdstuk: Toegang tot het Dual Drive Network Center
Toegang tot gegevens via SMB
Server Message Block (SMB) is het netwerkprotocol dat hoofdzakelijk gebruikt wordt om
bestandsuitwisseling tussen meerdere computers in een netwerk mogelijk te maken.
Windows
Open de Windows Explorer en voer in de adreslijst
\\ddnetworkcenter* of
\\IP_ADRESS in (IP_ADRESS is het IP-adres van uw Dual Drive Network Center).
Als u de hostnaam of het IP-adres heeft gewijzigd, gebruik dan de nieuwe instellingen.
Voer uw gebruikersnaam en wachtwoord in voor toegang tot het Dual Drive Network
Center. Als u zich als administrator aanmeldt, heeft u toegang tot alle mappen van het
Dual Drive Network Center.
Linux
Open de bestandsbrowser (bijv. Konqueror) en voer in de adreslijst
smb://ddnetworkcenter* of
smb://IP_ADRESS in (IP_ADRESS is het IP-adres van uw Dual Drive Network Center).
Als u de hostnaam of het IP-adres heeft gewijzigd, gebruik dan de nieuwe instellingen.
Voer uw gebruikersnaam en wachtwoord in voor toegang tot het Dual Drive Network
Center. Als u zich als administrator aanmeldt, heeft u toegang tot alle mappen van het
Dual Drive Network Center.
Mac OS
MAC OS X 10.4 en hoger.Selecteer in de menulijst "Ga naar" -> "Met server verbinden...".
Het adres van het Dual Drive Network Center is:
smb://ddnetworkcenter* of
smb://IP_ADRESS (IP_ADRESS is het IP-adres van uw Dual Drive Network Center).
* Fabrieksinstellingen. Als u de hostnaam of het IP-adres heeft gewijzigd, gebruik dan de nieuwe instellingen.

Klik op "Verbinden met". Voer de werkgroepnaam, uw gebruikersnaam en uw wachtwoord
in voor toegang tot het Dual Drive Network Center. Als u zich als administrator aanmeldt,
heeft u toegang tot alle mappen van het Dual Drive Network Center.
Selecteer vervolgens een vrijgegeven map en klik op OK om verder te gaan. Nadat u op
OK heeft geklikt, wordt de configuratie beëindigd en verschijnt er op de desktop van uw
computer een pictogram.
Door dubbelklikken op dit pictogram heeft u toegang tot alle voor uw gebruikersnaam
vrijgegeven mappen van het Dual Drive Network Center.

Toegang tot gegevens via FTP
Het File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is een standaard protocol dat wordt gebruikt om bestanden
via een TCP/IP computernetwerk uit te wisselen. Het FTP-protocol is gebaseerd op een
client-server-architectuur.
Lokale toegang
Activeer de "FTP-server"-optie. Gebruik een FTP-client software of open uw browser en
voer
ftp://USERNAME:USERPASSWORD@IP_ADDRESS *
of
ftp://USERNAME:USERPASSWORD@ddnetworkcenter *
(IP_ADDRESS is het IP-adres van uw Dual Drive Network Center).
FTP-toegang via internet
Activeer de "FTP-server"-optie in de configuratie van het Dual Drive Network Center. Uw
router moet als volgt geconfigureerd zijn:
1.Port Forwarding
Stuur poort 21 door naar het IP-adres van uw Dual Drive Network Center.
* Als u de hostnaam of het IP-adres van het Dual Drive Network Center heeft gewijzigd, gebruik dan de nieuwe
instellingen.

Opmerking: niet alle browsers kunnen voor de upload van gegevens
via FTP worden gebruikt. Browsers die dit ondersteunen zijn bijv.
Internet Explorer en Konqueror. Wij raden aan om een FTP-client
software te gebruiken, zoals bijv. WS_FTP, SmartFTP of CuteFTP.

2. Dynamic DNS
Het "Dynamic Domain Name System" biedt u de mogelijkheid om een officiële DNS-naam,
zoals bijv. www.yourname.com, te koppelen aan het dynamisch IP-adres dat u van uw
internet provider heeft gekregen.
Om dit te kunnen doen moet u zich eerst registeren bij een DynDNS-provider. Deze
DynDNS-provider actualiseert gewijzigde IP-adressen en koppelt deze aan de betreffende
domeinnamen. Hierdoor is het mogelijk om altijd onder één domeinnaam bereikbaar te
zijn, zelfs wanneer uw IP-adres wordt gewijzigd.
Als uw router dit ondersteunt, dan raden wij het gebruik van deze optie aan, anders dient
u altijd het WAN IP-adres van uw router te kennen om vanuit het internet via FTP toegang
te hebben op het Dual Drive Network Center.

De Freecom Network Storage Assistant
U kunt deFreecom Dual Drive Network Center configureren met de "Freecom Network
Storage Assistant". Deze tool beschikt over de volgende functies:
Accessing your Dual Drive Network Center web interface
Door klikken op dit menupunt, verschijnt de webinterface voor uw Freecom Dual Drive
Network Center in uw standaard browser.
Adding and removing shared folders
U kunt een stationsletter aan gedeelde mappen op uw Freecom Dual Drive Network Center
toewijzen. Zo heeft u snellere toegang tot uw bestanden.

Klik hier om het zoeken naar uw Freecom Dual Drive Network Center te herhalen, als deze
tijdens de eerste keer zoeken niet werd gevonden. Controleer of uw netwerk zoals in deze
handleiding beschreven is geconfigureerd, en of alle kabels juist zijn aangesloten.
Als alle kabels aangesloten zijn, maar uw apparaat na meerdere pogingen niet functioneert,
neem dan contact op met het Freecom Support Center.

In dit hoofdstuk worden de functies van uw Freecom Dual Drive Network Center
beschreven.
Login
Gebruik de "Freecom Network Storage Assistant" om de webinterface van uw Dual Drive
Network Center te openen of start uw browser en voer
http://ddnetworkcenter
in om de webinterface te openen.
Er wordt een login-venster geopend:
Gebruik de volgende gebruikersnamen en het volgende wachtwoord om voor de eerste
keer in te loggen: gebruikersnaam: admin
wachtwoord: admin
Status
Als u deze optie kiest, verschijnt er een overzicht van alle apparaat- en netwerkinstellingen
en de status van de harde schijf:

Setup
Met "Setup" is de configuratie van de basisinstellingen van uw Freecom Dual Drive Network
Center mogelijk.
In het submenu "System" kunnen de volgende instellingen worden geconfigureerd:
- apparaat- en werkgroepnaam wijzigen onder het menupunt System
- administrator wachtwoord wijzigen onder het menupunt System
- apparaat afsluiten of herstarten onder het menupunt System
- netwerkinstellingen configureren onder het menupunt Network
- een DHCP-server configureren onder het menupunt DHCP
- datum en tijd instellen onder het menupunt Date/Time
- RAID en JBOD configureren onder het menupunt Disk
- systeem firmware actualiseren onder het menupunt Upgrade

In het submenu "System" kunt u de volgende instellingen configureren:
- apparaatnaam
- werkgroepnaam
- administrator wachtwoord
Apparaat-/werkgroepnaam actualiseren
Ga naar Setup -> System
Hier kunt u onder System Information de apparaatnaam en de naam van de werkgroep,
waarin zich uw Freecom Dual Drive Network Center bevindt, wijzigen.
Nieuwe naam
Als u de naam het Freecom Dual Drive Network Center wijzigt, is uw apparaat via
http://NEW_NAME te bereiken (NEW_NAME staat voor de naam die u gaf aan
het apparaat).
Die maximale lengte van de apparaatnaam is 15 karakters. U mag alleen de
karakters A-Z, a-z en 0-9 gebruiken.

Nieuwe werkgroep
Hier kunt de naam van de werkgroep wijzigen, waarin uw apparaat zich bevindt.
Die maximale lengte van de werkgroepnaam is 15 karakters. U mag alleen de karakters
A-Z, a-z en 0-9 gebruiken
Nadat u de instellingen heeft gewijzigd, klikt u op "Apply". Uw Freecom Dual Drive Network
Center wordt opnieuw gestart om de instellingen op te slaan.
Administrator wachtwoord wijzigen
Hier kunt u uw administrator wachtwoord wijzigen. Voer het nieuwe wachtwoord in en
herhaal het nieuwe wachtwoord in het tweede veld.

De DHCP Client List laat alle clients zien die toegang hebben tot de DHCP-server wanneer

Disk Utility
Hier kunt u de organisatie van uw logische drives selecteren door bijv. "RAID 1" aan te
klikken.
Kies een organisatieschema en S.M.A.R.T. "Enable" of "Disable". S.M.A.R.T. staat voor Self-
Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology en bewaakt de werking van uw harde schijf.
Klik vervolgens op "Create" om uw gewenste organisatieschema te creëren.
RAID Modi
U kunt de harde schijven van uw Dual Drive Network Center in verschillende RAID-modi
configureren:
JBOD: in deze modus worden de harde schijven van uw Dual Drive Network Center als
afzonderlijke harde schijven ingericht.
RAID 0: in de modus "RAID 0" worden de harde schijven van uw Dual Drive Network Center
als een enkele harde schijf gezien en de gegevens worden afwisselend verdeeld over beide
harde schijven. Dit heeft als voordeel dat het lezen en schrijven sneller mogelijk is als bij
twee afzonderlijke harde schijven. Het nadeel is echter dat wanneer een van de twee harde
schijven uitvalt, alle gegevens op het Dual Drive Network Center verloren gaan.
RAID 1: Als u de modus "RAID 1" gebruikt, worden alle gegevens van de eerste harde schijf
op de tweede harde schijf gespiegeld. Hierdoor kunt u nog alleen maar de helft van het
totaal geheugen van uw Dual Drive Network Center gebruiken. Dit heeft echter als voordeel
dat uw gegevens beter beveiligd zijn omdat alles dubbel opgeslagen wordt. In het geval
van een uitval van een van de twee harde schijven kunt u verder gebruik maken van uw
gegevens op de tweede harde schijf.

HDD Power Management
De harde schijven kunnen dusdanig geconfigureerd worden dat ze na een bepaalde tijd
worden afgesloten als ze niet worden gebruikt. Hierdoor wordt energie bespaard en de
levensduur van de harde schijf verhoogd. Deze optie is standaard gedeactiveerd.
Activeer/deactiveer het Power Management met Enable/Disable. Selecteer vervolgens de
tijd in het Pull-Down-menu waarna de harde schijf in de ruststand gezet moet worden. U
kunt de volgende instellingen selecteren:
- 10 min
- 20 min
- 30 min
- 60 min
- 120 min
Update van de firmware
Ga naar Setup -> Upgrade
Upgrade
Klik op "Doorzoeken" en selecteer het gedownloade bestand van http://www.freecom.com.
Klik op "Apply" om de nieuwe firmware te installeren. Het apparaat wordt vervolgens opnieuw
gestart.
De nieuwe firmware herstelt normaal gesproken fouten en breidt de functies van uw
Dual Drive Network Center uit. Ga naar http://www.freecom.com en controleer of nieuwe
aanpassingen van de firmware beschikbaar zijn.

dient u onder "Rescan Interval" de intervaltijd te selecteren. Selecteer een of meerdere

Netwerkstations toevoegen en verwijderen
In dit menu kunt u aan mappen op uw Dual Drive Network Center een stationletter toewijzen.
Zo kunnen mappen onder Windows sneller worden gevonden.
Recovery procedure starten
Deze procedure kan een Dual Drive Network Center repareren en terugzetten in de standaard
fabrieksinstellingen als u geen toegang meer heeft op de Dual Drive Network Center. Uw
gebruikersgegevens worden niet gewist!
Voer de volgende stappen uit voor het herstellen:
a) Activeer de modus herstellen door in de Freecom Network Storage Assistant op "Starten
van herstellen" te klikken.
b) Schakel het Dual Drive Network Center uit.
c) Klik met een scherp voorwerp voorzichtig op de "Reset" toets. De "Reset" toets bevindt
zich naast de aansluiting voor het AC-voedingsapparaat aan de achterkant van de Dual
Drive Network Center.
d) Houd de "Reset"-toets ingedrukt en schakel het apparaat weer in.
e) Wacht tot de witte LED uitgaat (na ca. 1 seconde) en laat de "Reset"-toets weer los.

Uw garantie
Voor alle Freecom producten geldt dat u onbeperkte technische steun ontvangt per telefoon
of via Internet. De waarborg houdt in dat Freecom gedurende een hieronder aangegeven
periode, beginnend bij de ociële datum van aanschaf, garantie verleent tegen materiaal- en
fabricagefouten. Indien, gedurende deze periode, een defect in het product optreedt als gevolg
van ondeugdelijk materiaal of van een fabricagefout, zal Freecom, zonder kosten te berekenen
voor werk of onderdelen, op basis van eigen oordeel ,het product of de defecte onderdelen
repareren of vervangen. Hiervoor gelden overigens de hieronder aangegeven voorwaarden.
Voorwaarden
De garantie geldt uitsluitend indien de originele rekening of de verkoopbon (waarop de da-
tum van aanschaf, het productienummer en het serienummer zijn vermeld) samen met het
defecte product wordt terug gestuurd en ook een RMA-nummer wordt vermeld, dat u kunt
verkrijgen via de Freecom website of via een Freecom Service Center. Freecom behoudt zich het
recht voor de gratis garantie te weigeren indien voor de datum van aankoop geen bewijs kan
worden geleverd. De garantie geldt niet wanneer een RMA-nummer ontbreekt en wanneer
het serienummer is veranderd, is verwijderd of onleesbaar is gemaakt.
De garantie dekt uitsluitend de onderdelen die geleverd zijn, samen met en in de verpakking
van het product. De garantie dekt geen enkele van de volgende zaken: (a)verbruiksgoederen
die met het product zijn meegeleverd, media zoals diskettes of batterijen; (b) schade of verlies
van software programmas , van gegevens of van media voor removable opslag; (c) schade,
welke dan ook, die het gevolg is van aanpassingen of veranderingen van het product, die zijn

Reparatie en vervanging geschiedt op basis van uitruil.
De vervangen producten of de onderdelen zullen nieuw zijn of hersteld en gelijkwaardig aan
nieuw. Alle vervangen onderdelen en producten worden direct eigendom van Freecom. De
garantieperiode van elk vervangen product of onderdeel, zal gelijk zijn aan het resterende deel
van de originele garantieperiode
Voor reparaties of vervanging van producten of onderdelen, uitgevoerd na het verstrijken van
de garantieperiode, geldt een nieuwe garantie van 6 (zes) maanden.
