O percurso de fuga deve ser orientado cerca de 45 ° na oblíqua para trás.
No que respeita à direcção de queda da árvore, deve ter em conta os seguintes factores:
Inclinação natural da árvore,
Altura da árvore,
Grande quantidade de ramos,
Localização numa superfície plana ou inclinada,
Crescimento assimétrico, deterioração da madeira,
Direcção e velocidade do vento,
Neve nos ramos.
Nunca corte uma árvore se houverem ventos fortes.
Derrube

O derrube consiste em 2 operações de corte principais: 2 cortes por entalhe e um corte de derrube final.
Quando efectuar cortes de derrube e cortes transversais, a barra do espigão deve estar colocada em segurança contra o tronco.
O corte de derrube (C) deve ser feito na direcção de queda pretendida (E), o mais próximo possível do chão.
Corte primeiro o entalhe de derrube (C) na oblíqua e depois na horizontal.
Efectue o corte de derrube (D) na horizontal na direcção oposta ao entalhe de derrube. O corte deve ser feito 3 a 5 cm acima do entalhe
horizontal.
Deve haver uma linha de junção (F) entre o entalhe e o corte, cuja largura corresponde a cerca de 1/10 do diâmetro do tronco da
árvore.
Se a árvore cair durante o corte, retire de imediato a motosserra do corte e saia da zona de queda pelo percurso de fuga. Tenha cuidado
com os ramos que possam cair.
Se a árvore continuar de pé, derrube-a com cunhas colocadas na zona de corte. Tenha cuidado com os ramos que possam cair.
Desrama
Quando cortar troncos, encoste a motosserra ao tronco da árvore.
Nunca corte com a ponta da barra-guia. Perigo de recuo.
Tenha cuidado com os ramos que estejam sob cabos eléctricos.
Não corte os ramos suspensos colocando-se debaixo dos mesmos.
Nunca corte os troncos colocando-se em cima de um tronco de uma árvore.
Os cortes e entalhes especiais devem ser realizados por técnicos devidamente habilitados.
Corte transversal do tronco
Use sempre uma base segura (por exemplo, um cavalete).
Não coloque a placa de madeira em cima da perna. Não deixe que outra pessoa segure na madeira.
O tronco deve estar devidamente suportado.
Por razões de segurança, nenhuma parte do corpo deve estar dentro do raio de acção da corrente da serra.
