Cause What to do
The printed surface is scuffed or
soiled.
Is the paper too thick or too thin?
Check that the paper is a specification that can be used with this printer. For
information about the media types and appropriate settings for printing on paper from
other manufacturers or when using a raster image processor (RIP), please refer to the
handling instructions for the paper, or contact the retailer of the paper or the
manufacturer of the RIP.
Is the print head scuffing the printed surface?
If the print head scuffs the printed surface, set PLATEN GAP from WIDE to WIDEST.
See “PRINTER SETUP” on page 22
Is the paper eject method appropriate?
The paper eject method differs depending on the media type. In particular, use Epson
Film Basket when printing on Epson ClearProof Film.
See “PRINTER SETUP” on page 22
Is the print head scuffing the top edge of the paper?
If you select a margin value lower than the default, the print head may scuff the top
edge of the paper and print quality will decline. In this case, restore the default value or
set to TOP 35/BOTTOM 15mm.
See “PRINTER SETUP” on page 22
Is the print head scuffing the edge of the paper?
If you select a margin value lower than the default, the print head may scuff the top
edge of the paper and print quality will decline. In this case, restore the default value or
set the ROLL PAPER MARGIN to wide (TOP 35/BOTTOM 15mm).
See “PRINTER SETUP” on page 22
Widen margins at the bottom of the roll paper
Depending on the paper, usage and storage environments, and the content of the
printed data, scuff marks may remain at the bottom of the printed surface. If this
happens, set the ROLL PAPER MARGIN settings to TOP 15/BOTTOM 35mm to widen the
margins at the bottom of the paper.
See “PRINTER SETUP” on page 22
The paper is creased.
Are you using the printer at normal room temperature?
Epson’s special paper should be used at normal room temperature (temperature: 15 to
25˚C and for Epson ClearProof Film 20 to 25˚C , humidity: 40 to 60%). For information
about paper such as thin paper from other manufacturers that requires special
handling, refer to the relevant handling instructions.
When using paper other than Epson special media, have you set the paper
characteristics?
When using paper other than Epson special media, set the paper characteristics
(custom paper) before printing.
See “Printing with Non-Epson Media” on page 60
The back of the printed paper is
soiled.
Set PAPER SIZE CHECK to ON in the Menu mode.
If the printed image is bigger than the paper width and the PAPER SIZE CHECK is OFF,
the image is still printed beyond the edges of the printing area, causing the inside of
the printer to become soiled. In order to keep the inside of the printer clean, set PAPER
SIZE CHECK to ON in Menu mode.
See “PRINTER SETUP” on page 22
Is ink dry on the printed surface?
Depending on the printing density and paper type, ink may take some time to dry. Do
not stack the paper until the printed surface is dry.
Too much ink is being released.
Is the PAPER TYPE setting correct?
Make sure that the printer’s paper setting match the paper you are using. Ink discharge
is controlled according to the media type. If the paper setting and the loaded paper
differ, too much ink may be discharged for that type of paper.
