Automatic maintenance
function
This printer has self-maintenance functions for
maintaining the print head in consistently good
condition to ensure the best print quality.
Auto white ink refresh function
When white ink is not used for a long time, white ink
sediment may remain inside the ink tube and may
affect white ink print results. This function changes
white ink inside the ink tube to prevent
sedimentation. It takes about three to four minutes to
complete auto white ink refresh. (However, if the
cleaning was performed by the printer’s AUTO NOZZLE
CHECK function, it takes 4 minutes or more.)
Note:
White ink refresh does not automatically run
when you select OFF from AUTO WT INK
REFRESH on the LCD panel.
See “Menu Mode” on page 17

when you select cleaning liquid even if ON is
selected from AUTO WT INK REFRESH on the
LCD panel.
AUTO NOZZLE CHECK function
The printer performs a nozzle check without printing
a pattern and detects the clogged nozzles
automatically. If there are missing dots, it performs
cleaning automatically (taking two to 12 minutes).
When the AUTO NOZZLE CHECK function is ON, it
works in the following cases:
After the initial ink charging is completed.
After head cleaning.
After changing the white ink and the cleaning
required.
When printing is started.
The AUTO NOZZLE CHECK function works when
printing is started at the time you set on the control
panel; ON:PERIODICALLY or ON:EVERY JOB.
Furthermore, the automatic head cleaning is
performed the number of times you set on the control
panel; one time for the default setting or three times
(maximum) until the clogged nozzles are cleared.
However, after manual head cleaning, the automatic
head cleaning is performed once in spite of the
settings on the control panel.
Capping function
Capping is a function for automatically covering the
print head with a cap (lid) to prevent the print head
from drying out. Capping is performed in the
following situations.
When several seconds have elapsed after printing
finishes (that is there is no print data sent).
When printing is stopped.
Take care of the following points to ensure that the
print head is capped properly.
If the print head is not positioned on the right
side (it is not capped), turn the printer on, then
off again. By turning the printer off with the
button, the head is capped properly.
If you turn the power off when a paper jam or
error occurs and the print head is not capped,
turn the printer on again. Shortly, the print head
is capped automatically. Check that it is properly
capped, then turn the printer off.
Do not move the print head manually under any
circumstances.
Do not remove the power plug of the printer or
cut the power at the circuit breaker when the
power is on. The head may not be capped properly.
