Atomic DCF77 Clock

Hardware installation
Follow this procedure to install the DCF Clock :
1. Switch off your computer and peripherals.
2. Connect the DB9 female connector of the DCF Receiver (lower) to the DB9 female
connector located on the back panel of the Central Unit.
3. Connect the DB9 male connector (marked blue) of the RS232 cable to the DB9 connector
(marked blue) located on the back panel of the Central Unit. The DB25 male connector of
the RS232 cable has to be plugged into the COM1 or COM2 connector of your computer.
If you want to synchronize the time and date of the file server, connect the RS232 cable to
the work station operated by the supervisor or directly to the fileserver.
4. Plug the power cord into the mains supply.
5. Switch your computer and peripherals on again.
6. Locate the DCF Receiver in the best possible place for receiving the DCF signal. If the
received DCF signal is free from interference’s, the Central Unit should receive the valid
time and date within 5 minutes after the first power up.
Follow these steps to ensure best results:
a. The DCF Receiver should be placed far (not closer than 2 m) from
other electronic equipment (monitors, computers, Central Unit etc.).
b. The diode in the DCF Receiver and the "Signal" diode on the front
panel should flash (0.1 - 0.2 s) once per second.
There are only 59 flashes per minute.
c. The DCF Receiver should be placed horizontally (LED diode upwards) and
far from metal objects.
d. The best way to determine the proper orientation of the DCF Receiver is to rotate the
DCF Receiver until the condition described in b is obtained. Bad weather or other
interference can make the process of finding the proper orientation more difficult. The
Central Unit should receive the valid time and date when the interference is overcome.
Should the Central Unit lose the valid time and date (the display starts to flash), another
orientation or a better location for the DCF Receiver has to be found.
