power the trainer making the wheel move (even manually)
or pedalling a few times, for a few seconds. In fact, on
start-up, if the speed exceeds zero, Nero resets the sensor
saved in the memory and starts looking for another sensor,
as if it were the first time.
When the Nero resets the serial number of the power
sensor, it performs 6 slight vibrations to confirm the
cancellation.
NOTES:
- If Nero has connected to an incorrect sensor, just reset
the coupled sensor and repeat the coupling operation,
paying attention to move the sensor you do not want Nero
to connect to, away.
- If, during training, Nero loses the connection with the
power sensor, it goes automatically to using the formulas
to calculate the power. In the meantime, it keeps trying to
re-connect with the sensor.
- The trainer looks for ANT+ sensors first and Bluetooth
afterwards. If the power sensor is both ANT+ and
Bluetooth, very likely the trainer will latch on to the ANT+
signal.
- The cancellation vibrations are very light. To feel them, it
may be necessary to lay your hand on the resistance unit.
- In case of Bluetooth pedals / cranks, the trainer latches
onto just one of the two. In this case, it is not possible to
pre-determine which pedal / crank it will latch onto.
Moreover, since in this case each pedal / crank measures
the power developed by the relative leg, the value sent is
about half the total power developed by the cyclist.
In this case, you must enable the "half power" option with
the My E-Training app to use it properly (Parameter -
advanced configuration - Virtual Power Sensor ).
06_NOTES ON POWER VALUE ACCURACY
Power data sent by Nero results from a large number of
calculations. These are obtained by mainly taking into
account pedaling speed, braking power of the rollers and
other factors.
Elite calibrates every single Nero in order to improve accuracy,
with the aim of reducing errors as much as possible, though
there are some factors that you need to consider while
training that might influence power data accuracy.
First off, we suggest calibrating with Spindown.
After you’ve done it once, it is advisable to do it every time
after one of these events:
- After changing wheels
- After changing the bike
- After every significant variation in tyre pressure.
- After every significant variation in rider’s weight or when
there’s a different rider altogether
Spindown eliminates resistance variations due to one of the
aforementioned events - it measures all of these components
and makes the home trainer more accurate.
Here are some more suggestions on how to optimize power
data accuracy:
- Maintain a constant position on the bike. Indeed, the center
of gravity changes every time you change position on the
bike, consequently weight distribution on the home trainer
changes too, resulting in a variation of resistance.
- Fold up the home trainer once you’re done training,
otherwise the elastic bands might deform, thus changing the
overall home trainer resistance.
If the home trainer connects to a bike’s power meter
(where available), the aforementioned notes are not to be
considered, as power data isn’t calculated but measured by
the sensor on the bike.
Please read the “Power Meter Link (PML)” section for more
info.
07_POWER SENSOR CALIBRATION
Nero can calibrate the internal power measurement system,
which clears the system settings in order to always obtain
accurate power values.
Home trainer should not be heated when you begin the
calibration procedure, so please make sure that it hasn’t
been used in the last 2 hours and it’s been folded up,
otherwise results might be less accurate.
Tap the related command on the My E-Training app and
follow the instructions to launch the procedure.
The calibration command in the mobile version can be found
in Parameters – Advanced Configuration – Home trainer
calibration, while in the desktop version it can be found in
Settings – Home trainer calibration.
This is accomplished by pedalling and increasing speed until
you reach a certain indicated value.
Remember to stop pedalling at the system prompt.
After a few seconds the system will indicate that the
calibration process was successful.
This value is then stored in the Nero’s memory, and accurate
power data will be received from every connected device,
including non-Elite third party software / app / devices.
Please note: the aforementioned calibration procedure can
be conducted with software / app / devices other than the
Elite ones.
Notes on the correct calibration procedure:
- When you're required to stop pedaling, try and maintain
your bike as centered as possible.
- Never lean on walls or other leaning points.
- Keep your feet on the pedals until the procedure is
complete.
