2.1 Putting A combination 1-Ph/2-Ph Machine Into Operation
All "Combi" machines are supplied with a plug (CEE 5 pin 16/32 A) installed on the power cable. Connect to a 220 - 240 V
single-phase outlet with the adaptor supplied or to two phases of a 380/415 V 3-phase mains.
1.0 Specifications
- This welding machine should be connected to the power source via an Earth Fault Circuit Interrupter with 30 mA
capacity.
- Have worn or damaged power cables replaced immediately by a qualified electrician.
Do not operate the welding machine with a damaged power cable, danger of personal injury through electric shock.
- Children under the age of 16 should not operate this welding machine.
Connect to an earthed, single-phase 220 - 240 V outlet on a circuit protected by a 16 A time-lag fuse. Double insulated
machines (with PVC housing) do not require an earthed outlet. Operating other electrical machines or appliances on
the same circuit while welding is not recommended.
If your machine has detachable welding and earth cables, connect cables to the sockets, lock by turning plug clockwise.
With transformers the polarity does not matter, so both cables can be connected to either the + or - sockets. The same
applies for machines with permanently attached earth and welding cables.
Attach earth clamp to the work piece, close to the area to be welded and on to bare metal for good conduction. Place
a stick electrode into the electrode holder.
Set current selector switch to desired current. On all machines with stepless setting turn crank or handwheel until
desired current is indicated (stepless).
If there is no power outlet near the work piece an extension cable is required. The cable lead cross section must be
at least 2.5 mm
2
. The extension cable should be fully uncoiled to prevent heat build-up by inductance. Inductance also
considerably reduces the welding current. Extending the welding cables is also possible, however the cross section
of the extension cable should be larger than that of the cable supplied with the machine. Every machine is overload
protected by a thermo switch, which switches the transformer off if it becomes too hot. Let cool down until machine
switches on automatically. Some machines are equipped with a fan to increase the duty cycle through forced cooling.
The fan operates as long as the machine is switched on.
