1 SPEAKER LEVEL IN
These are sockets for connecting the ELAC subwoofer to the loudspeaker outputs of an amplifier or surround re-
ceivers (also see next Section).
The bass sections of the sound signals incoming via the “LINE LEVEL IN“ and „SPEAKER LEVEL IN“ sockets are
all added and relayed via the subwoofer.
The input circuit has a symmetrically floating design, so that the ELAC subwoofer function like a passive speaker,
i.e. if required, amplifiers with bridge circuits can be connected without any reservations. In comparison to passive
loudspeakers much less current or power is drawn (around 1/40) and this independently of frequency. This means
that neither especially large cable sections nor “exotic” cable designs are required. The main loudspeakers receive
their power from the pre-connected amplifier (not from the ELAC subwoofer). Normally, 2 x 2.5 mm² are to be rec-
ommended. 2 x 1.5 mm² are sufficient without major sacrifices for “4 Ohm” loudspeakers up to a total length of
around 6 m; with “8 Ohm" loudspeakers up to approx. 12 m. Please feed the lines carefully into the terminals, no
short circuits due to protruding wires touching adjacent lines or the housing should be permitted.
2 LFE / MONO IN (UNBALANCED)
This cinch socket is designed for connecting the ELAC subwoofer to the “BASS” / “SUB OUT” / “LFE” output of a
surround amplifier / surround receiver. A standard mono-NF cable with cinch plugs is used for this connection.
During operation (operating mode set to “AUTO”) these plugs should not be plugged in or pulled out.
3 LFE / MONO IN (BALANCED) (only available with SUB 2080 D)
This XLR socket is designed for connecting the ELAC subwoofer to the “BASS” / “SUB OUT” / “LFE” output of a
surround amplifier / surround receiver. A symmetrical mono-NF cable with XLR plug and socket is used for this
connection. During operation (operating mode set to “AUTO”) these plugs should not be plugged in or pulled out.
4 REMOTE START
This phone-jack socket is designed for connecting the subwoofer to a remote output of a surround amplifier / sur-
round receiver. For this connection, a mono-LF cable with mono phone-jack plugs (3.5 mm diameter) is required.
The accepted trigger voltage may vary between 4V and 30V.
5 POWER (ON / OFF)
The device is switched on and off by the power switch.
After the signal links and the power supply have been connected with the supplied mains cable, you can turn on
the mains switch. In the case of prolonged absence, the device should be switched off to avoid unnecessary power
consumption.
NOTE: All-pole (galvanic) isolation of the ELAC subwoofer from the mains is only assured by removing the
mains plug! When the mains plug is plugged in and the mains switch on, there is residual current even in
stand-by mode (indicated by the blue LED at the front).
