4.6 Extending the telescopic tube (only
GE-EC 720 T Kit)
n Open the safety guard (Fig. 12/Item 1)
n Note the position of the guide groove (Fig. 12/
Item R) and insert the telescopic tube extension
(14) into the mount.
n To lock the telescopic tube extension, turn it
clockwise through 90° until you hear a „click“ (Fig.
13).
n To remove the telescopic tube extension, turn the
lock wheel (Fig. 14/Item S) to the rear while
simultaneously turning the telescopic extension
counter-clockwise through 90° (Fig. 14). Close
the mount with the safety guard.
Note: Use the telescopic tube extension only in
combination with the hip holder (Fig. 1/Item 15, see
section 5.2).
5. Operation
5.1 Using the shoulder strap
Important! Always use the shoulder strap when
working with the equipment. Switch off the equipment
before you take off the shoulder strap (risk of injury).
1. Hook the carabiner (Fig. 15/Item T) into the strap
holder.
2. Slip the shoulder strap over your shoulder.
3. Adjust the length of the shoulder strap so that the
strap attachment is at waist level.
Note:
The shoulder strap is equipped with a safety release
(Fig. 15 / Item U) with which you can quickly detach
the shoulder strap from the machine, e.g. in case of
danger. To operate the safety release (U), pull it
downwards.
5.2 Putting on the hip holder with pouch (Fig. 16)
(only GE-EC 720 T Kit)
To use the telescopic tube extension safely you need
the hip holder with pouch. Place the hip holder around
your hips and adjust it so that it is firmly seated. You
can rest the telescopic tube extension in the pouch.
5.3 Setting the telescopic tube (Fig. 17)
1. Open (a) the telescopic tube lock (7).
2. Pull out the top telescopic tube until it reaches the
required working height.
3. Close (b) the telescopic tube lock (7) again.
5.4 Connecting to the power supply
n Connect the power cable to a suitable extension
cable. Make sure that the extension cable is
designed for the power rating of the chainsaw.
n Secure the extension cable as shown in Fig. 18 to
protect it against pulling forces and accidental
disconnection.
n Connect the extension cable to a professionally
installed safety mains outlet with ground contact.
We recommend using a cable with a bright and
highly visible color, e.g. red or yellow. This will
reduce the risk of accidentally damaging it with
the chainsaw.
5.5 On/Off switch
Switching on
n Hold the chainsaw by the handles with both
hands (thumbs under the additional handle).
n Slide the safety lock-off (Fig. 19/Item 3) to the
front and hold.
n To switch on the chainsaw, press the On/Off
switch (Fig. 19/Item 2). You can then release the
safety lock-off.
Switching off
Release the On/Off switch (Fig. 19/Item 2). Always
disconnect the mains plug when you stop working,
even if it is only for a short time.
6. Working with the chainsaw
Preparations
To ensure that you can work safely, check the
following points before every use:
Condition of the chainsaw
Inspect the chainsaw before the start of work for
damage to the housing, the power cable, the saw
chain and the cutter rail. Never use a chainsaw which
is obviously damaged.
Oil container
Fill level of the oil container. Even while working, keep
checking that sufficient oil is in the system. To avoid
damaging the chainsaw, never run the saw if there is
no oil in the system or if the oil drops below the “min”
mark. On average, a single filling will last around 10
minutes depending on the number of pauses in
cutting and the loads involved.
Saw chain
Tension of the saw chain, condition of the cutting ele-
ments. The sharper the chainsaw, the easier and
more controllable it is to operate the chainsaw. The
same also applies to the chain tension. Also while
working you should check the chain tension no less
than every 10 minutes in order to increase your safety.
New saw chains in particular often tend to expand
