ABS systeem
Voor remmen in moeilijke situaties is veel
rijdeskundigheid nodig. Remmen is een van de
moeilijkste en gevaarlijkste momenten tijdens het
besturen van een tweewieler: het gevaar voor vallen
of ongevallen is op dit moment immers aanzienlijk
groter dan in alle andere gevallen. Als het voorwiel
word geblokkeerd, ontbreekt de stabiliserende
werking van de wrijvingselementen, waardoor men
de controle over het voertuig verliest. Om de
volledige remkracht van de motorfiets in alle
noodsituaties, op moeilijke terreinen of in moeilijke
klimaatomstandigheden te benutten, werd het ABS-
systeem ontwikkeld om blokkering van de wielen
tegen te gaan. Dit is een hydraulisch-elektronisch
mechanisme dat de druk in het remcircuit beheert op
het ogenblik waarop de sensor die op het wiel zit de
ABS signaleert dat het wiel wordt geblokkeerd. De
onmiddellijke drukafname zorgt ervoor dat het wiel
blijft draaien en het contact met het wegdek niet
verliest. De ABS-besturing zorgt ervoor dat de druk in
het circuit weer normaal wordt en dat het voertuig
dus weer remt, en herhaalt deze drukcyclus totdat
het probleem volledig is verdwenen.
Als het mechanisme tijdens het remmen in werking
treedt, kan dit worden waargenomen door een lichte
pulserende weerstand in het rempedaal en de
remhendel.
De gescheiden voor- en de achterremcircuits worden
door afzonderlijke bedieningsorganen op de
motorfiets bediend. Het ABS-systeem is dus geen
integraal remsysteem dat tegelijkertijd de voor- en de
achterrem beheert. Indien u dit wenst, kan het
systeem worden uitgeschakeld op het
instrumentenpaneel m.b.v. de “Functie deactivering
ABS“.
