3. Now set the device as a recording device. To do this, click in the menu bar for the applica-
tion on the menu item "Audacity" and then on the menu item "Preferences".
The "Audacity Preferences" window will open up:
If you have not selected it yet, click on the "Audio I/O" tab (P). Open the drop-down
menu (Q) and select as playback device the built-in speakers of your computer ("Built-in
Audio").
The default recording device set is the built-in microphone of your computer ("Built-in
Audio"). Open the drop-down menu (R) and select as recording device the device which is
connected (here "USB PnP Audio Device").
As the connected device is a stereo device, the channels must also be set accordingly. To
do this, open the drop-down menu (S) and select "2 (Stereo)".
If during the recording you want to listen to what is being recorded, place a tick in the
"Software Playthrough" check box (T). The sound is then played through the speakers of
your computer.
You can also connect headphones to the device to listen in during the recording.
For this to happen, the "Software Playthrough" check box must be disabled.
Conrm your selection by clicking on "OK". The window will close.
4. Set the record volume if necessary using the corresponding mixer tool.
5. Open the cassette compartment, insert a cassette and then close the cassette compart-
ment cover again.
6. Wind the cassette to the point from which recording is to commence.
Wind up to a few seconds before the start of the title so that you do not
miss the start by mistake!
7. To start recording, press the PLAY button on the device and then immediately press the
"Record" button in the application.
