In use there is a loud bang when the footrest axle on the flywheel side passes the 9 o'clock position. Sounds as if something is catching or binding and the loud bang occurs when it's released. I've removed the footrests and the plastic casing to expose the belt, magnetic drive and the flywheel but not the plastic covers on the flywheel. When the flywheel is rotated with just the free crank axle the loud bang occurs when, on the flywheel side, the crank passes the 9o'clock position. However, despite careful inspection when the flywheel is rotating no obstruction or binding can be seen. All I can suggest is that the noise is in someway related to turning of the flywheel axle. Haven't removed the retaining nut to the axle as I don't have a socket that fits and it seems to be the only nut near part No 71 on the schematic that is not numbered. Two questions:

1. what is the size of the retaing nut on the flywheel axle?
2. Any knowledge/suggestions as to what is causing the noise?

Managed to find an old box spanner and was able to remove the two end nuts on the large flywheel pulley. Wasn't able to remove the flywheel pulley on the opposite side to the belt drive. However, did manage to remove and then refit the rubber drive belt. When the drive belt is off, the flywheel pulley rotates easily, fast and, more importantly, there is no loud bang - I'm assuming that a ball race is fitted on the axle which indicates to me that it is in good condition. When the rubber belt was refitted and the flywheel turned the loud bang returned when the foot rest axle passed the 9 o'clock position!!! How do you remove the flywheel pulleys?
