5 Correcting malfunctions

5 Correcting malfunctions
5.1 Before you send in the appliance
Before sending the appliance to Royal Appliance Customer Services, use the following table to
check whether you can correct the malfunctions yourself.
WARNING:
Never use a defective appliance! Before starting to troubleshoot, switch the appliance off and pull
out the mains plug, ZChapter 3.2, "Switching off and retracting the power cable".
Malfunction Possible cause Solution
Appliance does
not work
Plug is not plugged in or the appli-
ance is not switched on.
Push the plug into a plug socket and switch
the appliance on, ZChapter 3.1, "Vacuum-
ing".
Socket does not carry any cur-
rent.
Test the cylinder vacuum cleaner at another
socket which you are sure carries current.
Power cable is damaged. Have the cable replaced by Royal Appliance
Customer Services, address ZPage 116,
"International Service".
Suction perform-
ance is not satis-
factory
Dust filter bag is full or blocked. Empty/clean the dust filter bag.
Nozzle, telescopic tube or suction
hose are blocked.
Remove the blockage. If necessary, use a
long wooden rod for this (e. g. a broom han-
dle).
The preset suction level is not
suitable for the flooring.
Adjust the suction level to the flooring,
ZChapter 3.1, "Vacuuming", Step 4.
Carpet/hard floor switch
(Fig. 1/20) is set to an inappropri-
ate position for the flooring.
Adjust the position of the carpet/hard floor
switch (Fig. 1/20) to the flooring, ZChapter
3.1, "Vacuuming", Step 5.
The attached nozzle is not suita-
ble for the flooring.
Push on the correct nozzle, ZChapter 2.3,
"Using other nozzles (accessories)".
Filter is dirty. Change/clean the corresponding filter,
ZChapter 4.3, "Changing the protective mo-
tor filter" or ZChapter 4.4, "Changing the hy-
gienic exhaust filter".
Appliance makes
an unusual noise
Sucked-in particles are blocking
the air-way.
Remove the particles. If necessary, use a
long wooden rod for this (e. g. a broom han-
dle).
