WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury,
always secure work to prevent it from
being thrown back towards the user.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury,
make sure the sander is not resting
on the workpiece when the switch is
turned on.
CAUTION: To reduce the risk of injury,
check to see that the belt guard (l) is in
place, secured and working correctly.
WARNING:
Make sure all materials to be sanded
are well secured.
Apply only a gentle pressure to the
workpiece. Excessive pressure does
not improve the sanding effect, but
only results in an increased load on the
machine and causes the abrasive to
tear.
• Avoid overloading.
WARNING: Do not sand magnesium!
Proper Hand Position (fi g. 6)
WARNING: To reduce the risk of
serious personal injury, ALWAYS use
proper hand position as shown.
WARNING: To reduce the risk of
serious personal injury, ALWAYS hold
securely in anticipation of a sudden
reaction.
This can be a one-handed tool. Proper hand
position would be to have one hand on the rubber
portion of the body. If greater stability or pressure is
needed, the other hand can grip the front handle (b).
Switching On and Off (fi g. 1)
Switching on: press the on/off switch (a) towards
the I (ON) on the casing.
Switching off: press the on/off switch towards the O
(OFF) on the casing.
Sanding
WARNING: Venting area may become
hot with excessive use.
WARNING: ALWAYS use proper hand
position when using this sander (Fig. 6).
Start with the coarsest grit size.
Move the tool in long, sweeping
strokes.
Check your work at short intervals.
WARNING: Always switch off the
tool when work is finished and before
unplugging.
Consult your dealer for further information on the
appropriate accessories.
Replacing the Sanding Belt (fi g. 2)
WARNING: To reduce the risk of
injury, be sure sander is turned off and
disconnected from the power supply
when changing the sanding belt. Before
reconnecting the tool, make sure the
switch (a) is in the off position.
TO REPLACE THE BELT
1. Rotate the belt tensioning lever (d) clockwise until
front roller (c) retracts and releases the tension on
the belt (f).
2. Remove the worn out belt.
3. Slip a new belt around the wheels.
WARNING: Severe laceration hazard.
If installed backwards, monodirectional
sanding belts may not track properly
and may overhang the housing, possibly
causing severe lacerations.
4. Rotate the belt tensioning lever (d)
counterclockwise into position to reapply
tension to the belt.
MAINTENANCE
Your DEWALT power tool has been designed to
operate over a long period of time with a minimum
of maintenance. Continuous satisfactory operation
depends upon proper tool care and regular cleaning.
To Replace the Platen/cork (fi g. 1, 5)
The cork under the platen on your belt sander may
require replacement at some point during the life of
the tool. A new platen/cork is available through a
D
EWALT authorized service centre.
1. Remove the sanding belt as previously
described.
2. Rotate the belt tensioning lever (d)
counterclockwise to the clamp position.
3. Remove the plastic cover from right side of
platen by removing the four screws (m) using a
flat head or Torx 20 screwdriver.
4. Slide old platen/cork (i) out.
5. Slide the new platen/cork into the sander and
discard the old one.
