I have followed instructions for desalination my machine but the red light won't go off and not making any coffee.. what have a done wrong?

My diffuser is stuck and will not come out tried switching on and off but I can not insert tray. The infuser will not return to raised position. In its current position it is too low to allow the tray to be replaced. Depressing the red buttons does not help
