Close the coffee lid (C). Press the ‘COFFEE’ key;
the ‘
ON’ light will come on (fig. 6) and the machi-
ne will begin to make the coffee. (To make coffee
at the pre-set time press the ‘
AUTO’ key and the
AUTO’ light will come on.) The coffee will begin
to trickle out after a few seconds; when it is ready,
there will be 4 beeps to signal that the coffee has
been made.
It is completely normal for the appliance to emit
steam during coffee percolation and for a few drops
of condensation to form around the lid.
After percolation, the hotplate (Z) keeps the coffee in
the jug warm at the appropriate temperature for 2
hours (to modify this time see the paragraph headed
“AUTO SHUT OFF TIME”).
PREPARING CAPPUCCINOS
Filling and switching on the boiler
Unscrew the boiler cap (E) by turning it in an anti-
clockwise direction.
Fill the measuring jug (Z4) with water up to the 170
g – 6 oz line (fig. 7).
Pour it slowly into the boiler, first making sure that
the “cappuccino” switch is off and that
the steam
knob is turned off.
When it is filled like this the
boiler provides enough water for between 15 and
20 cappuccinos.
Warning: if the boiler is filled while it is hot (for
example when the water runs out while a cap-
puccino is being made) pour in only the amount
of water shown above and NEVER TRY TO FILL
THE BOILER UP TO THE MAX 170 g – 6 oz MARK
(fig. 8) otherwise the milk will not froth properly.
Next close the boiler cap by turning it firmly
clockwise.
Note: for safety reasons it is not possible to open
the cap when the boiler is warm because it turns
without unscrewing; it is necessary to wait for all
the water contained in the boiler to be comple-
tely used up in order to fill it, or else to wait for
the boiler to cool down.
Further Boiler Refills
Further boiler refills must be carried out as descri-
bed in the previous paragraph and ONLY when
the water in the boiler has completely run out.
Preparing the “Italian Coffee” for the Cappuccinos
Before the frothed milk is ready to be poured the
steam boiler should preheat for about 10 minutes.
To this end, the ‘ON/OFF’ cappuccino switch (fig.
10) must be pressed before the coffee is prepa-
red; this will allow the steam boiler all the time it
needs to heat up.
Fill the jug with cold water up to the level shown
on the jug itself on the “Italian coffee” side, in
order to obtain the required number of cappucci-
nos (from 1 to 4 cappuccinos, fig. 9).
Warning:
never exceed the MAX line shown on the jug as
while the machine is working there could be
some “Italian coffee” leakage.
Pour the water in the jug into the tank (fig. 4) and
DO NOT place the jug on the hotplate.
Put the coffee into the filter and level it off uniformly.
As a general rule, use two measures of coffee (7 +
7 grams) for each cup of cappuccino required.
However, the amount of coffee to be used can vary
according to personal taste. The type of coffee used
can be filter coffee or moka coffee; a good Italian
cappuccino is obtained with the latter.
Close the coffee lid and press the ‘ON/OFF’ cof-
fee switch (fig. 6).
When the four beeps which signal that the perco-
lation is complete are heard, place the cup (not a
plastic one to avoid it becoming deformed by the
heat) on the centre of the hotplate (fig. 11).
At this point, move the coffee dispenser switch to
the right so as to pour the coffee (approx. 60 cc)
into the cup (fig. 11). The coffee ceases to emer-
ge automatically with the release of the coffee
dispenser switch.
Preparing the Milk for the Cappuccinos
(The “ON/OFF CAPPUCCINO” switch must be pres-
sed down).
To make a cappuccino, pour into the milk tank
milk
which is neither boiling nor hot
. With the milk tank
filled to the “MAX” line, 2 or 3 cappuccinos can be
made.
Never exceed the little mark which is pla-
ced immediately above the word “MAX” (fig. 12)
or the milk may continue to drip from the pipe
after the cappuccino has been prepared.
Before beginning to dispense the milk, always
wait for the “OK” light (
W) to come on to indica-
te that the ideal temperature for the frothing of the
milk has been reached.
Place the cup containing the coffee under the milk
tank pipe, making sure that the milk tank is firmly
attached, then turn the steam knob
at least a turn
in an anti-clockwise direction. The frothy milk will
start to emerge from the milk tank pipe (fig. 13).
Should small sized cups be used, the anti-spray
cap should be fitted onto the milk tank pipe (fig.
14) to avoid milk from splashing.
Fill the cup with the required amount of frothy milk;
In order to obtain an optimum frothy milk, always
