DVD+R
A DVD format that allows you to write once. It is a
competitor product to DVD-R, and is therefore not
compatible with that format. Some new DVD
writers can write in both DVD+R and DVD-R, and
most DVD players can read both formats. For more

DVD-ROM
A read-only DVD format commonly used for
distribution of movies (which are more specifically
referred to as DVD-Video) and computer games.
DVD-RW
A DVD format that can be written to about 1,000
times. It is a competitor product to DVD+RW, and is
therefore not compatible with that format. Some
new DVD writers can write in both DVD-RW and
DVD+RW, and most DVD players can read both

DVD+RW
A rewritable DVD format that can be written to
about 1,000 times. It is a competitor product to

editable DVD
A DVD in either DVD-RW or DVD+RW format that
can be written to, then edited after the burning
process.
