Chapter 4 Making Conference Calls on Your Phone
Adding Your Line to a Shared Line Call
Support for Conference Modes
Cisco IP Phones support barge in two conference modes:
Using the Barge softkey and conference resources that are built into the
phone. Barge allows you to join an in-progress call with minimal interruption
to the call. When you use Barge, other parties on the call hear a beep tone
announcing your presence. Barge does not change the original call
information display. You cannot add additional callers to a barged call. When
you hang up, the remaining parties hear a disconnect tone, and the original
call continues. The maximum number of parties for a Barge call is limited to
three.
Using the cBarge softkey and shared conference resources. cBarge allows you
to join an in-progress call and convert it to a standard conference call. With
cBarge, every party is treated as an ad hoc conference call participant; all call
participants have the same features available as in standard conferences.
When you use cBarge, other parties on the call hear a tone and brief
interruption in the call; the original call information changes on the LCD
screen. When you hang up, the call remains as a conference call provided at
least three participants remain. cBarge allows multiple parties (3-16) to barge
into a call.
Note The Barge softkey is enabled by default. Your system administrator might
determine that Barge or cBarge is the more appropriate option for your company
and then assign that specific softkey to your phone. Check with your system
administrator to find out if Barge or cBarge has been enabled for you.
Follow these steps to add yourself to a call on one of your shared lines:
Procedure
Step 1 Select an active call on one of your shared lines.
Step 2 If your system administrator assigned the Barge softkey to your phone, follow
Step 3 and Step 4. If your system administrator assigned the cBarge softkey to
your phone, follow Step 5 and Step 6. See the Support for Conference Modes
section on page 4-5 for information about Barge and cBarge.
