• Signal reception is normally better at night than during the day .
• Time calibration signal reception takes from tw o to seven min utes, but in some
cases it can take as long as 14 minutes. T ake care that you do not perf orm any
button operations or mov e the watch during this time.
• At distances further than about 500 kilometers from a transmitter, signal reception
may not be possib le during cer tain times of y ear or times of da y . Radio interference
may also cause prob lems with reception.

• Even when the watch is within the reception r ange of the transmitter , signal
reception will be impossible if the signal is b locked b y mountains or other geological
formations between the watch and signal source .
• Signal reception is aff ected by weather , atmospheric conditions, and seasonal
changes.
• See the information under “Signal Reception T roubleshooting” if you experience
problems with time calibr ation signal reception.
About Auto Receive
With auto receive, the watch receiv es the time calibration signal automatically up to six

Note
• Auto receiv e is performed only if the watch is in the Timekeeping Mode or World
Time Mode when one of the calibration times is reached. It is not perf or med if a
calibration time is reached while an alarm is sounding, or while you are configuring
settings (while settings are flashing on the displa y).
• When a reception starts, the second hand will move at high speed to the 12 o ’cloc k
position where it will stop until the reception is complete.
• Auto receiv e of the calibration signal is designed to be perf ormed ear ly in the
morning, while you sleep (provided that the Timekeeping Mode time is set correctly).
Before going to bed f or the night, remove the w atch from your wrist, and put it in a
location where it can easily receive the signal.
• When auto receive is turned on, the watch receives the calibr ation signal for two to
sev en minutes ev eryday when the time in the Timekeeping Mode reaches each of
the calibration times. Do not perf orm any button operation within se ven minutes
before or after an y one of the calibration times. Doing so can interf ere with correct
calibration.
• Remember that reception of the calibration signal depends on the time kept in the
Timekeeping Mode. The receiv e operation will be performed whenev er the display
shows any one of the calibr ation times, regardless of whether or not the
Timekeeping Mode time actually is the correct time .
About the Receiving Indicator
The receiving indicator shows the strength of the calibration signal being receiv ed. F or
best reception, be sure to keep the watch in a location where signal strength is
strongest.
• Even in an area where signal strength is strong, it tak es about 10 seconds for signal
reception to stabilize enough f or the receiving indicator to indicate signal strength.
• Use the receiving indicator as a guide for chec king signal strength and for finding the
best location for the watch during signal reception.

Signal Reception T roubleshooting
Check the follo wing points whenev er you experience problems with signal reception.
Problem
Cannot perform
manual receive .
Auto receiv e is
turned on, but
the Lev el 4
receiving
indicator does
not appear on
the Timekeeping
Mode display .
Probable Cause
•
The watch is not in the Timekeeping Mode.
• Y our current Home City is not one of the
following city codes: AT H , BER, PA R , or
LON.
• Y ou changed the time setting manually .
• The watch was not in the Timekeeping
or W orld Time Mode, or y ou were
performing some button operation
during auto receive.
• Even if reception is successful, the
Lev el 4 receiving indicator disappears
each day when the first auto receiv e
operation of the day is perf ormed.
• Time data (hour, minutes, seconds) only
was received during the last reception.
The Level 4 receiving indicator appears
only when time data and date data
(year , month, day) are both receiv ed.
• If the time is one hour off, the DST
setting may be incorrect.
• The Home City code setting is not
correct for the area where you are using
the watch.
What you should do
• Enter the Timekeeping Mode
and try again.
• Select AT H , BER, PA R , or
LON as your Home City .
• Perf or m man ual receive or
wait until the ne xt auto
receive is perf ormed.
• Check to make sure the
watch is in a location where it
can receive the signal.
• Change the DST setting to
Auto DST .
• Select the correct Home City
code.
• For further information, see “Important! ” under “Time Calibration Signal Reception ”
and “ Radio-controlled Timekeeping Precautions ” .

Timekeeping Mode’s Home City time.
• All of the operations in this section are perf ormed in the
World Time Mode, which y ou enter by pressing C.
