I) Never lay the power t ool down until the accessory
has come t o a complete s top. The spinning ac cessory
may cat ch the surfac e and pull the power tool out of your
control.
m) Do not run the po wer tool while carrying it at y our
side. Accident al contact with the spinning ac cessory could
snag your clothing, pulling the ac cessor y into your body .
n) Regularly cle an the power tool’ s air vents. The mot or ’ s
fan dr aws dust into the housing.
o) Do not oper ate the power t ool near flammable materi-
als. Sparks c ould ignite these materials.
p) Do not use ac cessories that requir e liquid coolants.
Using wat er or other liquid coolants may result in electr o-
cution or shock.
4.1 Kickback and Rela ted Warnings
Kickback is the sudden response t o an acc essor y pinching
or jamming while rot ating. Pinching or jamming causes the
rot ating accessory to s top abruptly , which in turn forces
the uncontrolled pow er tool in the direction ag ainst the
acc essor y’s r otation at the point of jamming. Kickb ack is
the result of power tool misuse and/ or incorrect oper ating
procedur es or conditions. It can be avoided by taking
proper precautions as given belo w .
a) Maintain a firm grip on the po wer tool and position
your body and arm to allow you t o resist kickback for ces.
Always use the auxiliary handle for maximum contr ol
over kickback or t orque reaction during st art-up. The
opera tor can c ontrol torque reac tions or kickback forc es, if
proper precautions ar e taken.
b) Never plac e your hand near the rot ating ac cessory . The
acc essor y may kickback over your hand.
c) Do not allow your body t o enter the area where the
power tool would mo ve if kickback occurs. Kickback
will propel the power tool in the opposit e direction of the
acc essor y’s mo vement at the point of jamming.
d) Use special car e when working around c orners, sharp
edges et c. You mus t prevent ac cessories from bouncing
o the power tool and bec oming jammed. A rota ting
acc essor y tends to jam around c orners and sharp edges
and also if bouncing occurs, thus causing loss of c ontrol or
kickback.
e) Do not a ttach a saw chain woodcarving blade or
too thed saw blade. Such blades crea te frequent kickback
and loss of control.
4.2 Safety Warnings Specific f or Grinding with Diamond
Cup Wheels:
a) Use only wheel types that ar e recommended for
your power tool and the specific guar d designed for the
selected wheel. Wheels f or which the power tool was no t
designed cannot be adequa tely guarded and are unsafe.
b) The safety guar d must be securely att ached to the
power tool. Alw ays direct the power t ool so that the
wheel is not openly expo sed to the oper ator . The guard
helps to pro tect the operat or from broken fragment s,
accident al contact with the wheel and sparks tha t could
ignite clothing.
c) Wheels must be used only f or recommended applica-
tions.
d) Always use undamag ed wheel flanges that ar e the
correc t size and shape for your selected ac cessories. The
correc t flanges support the accessories.
4.3 Additional Safety Ins tructions:
WARNING– Always we ar prot ective goggles.
Wear a suitable dus t prot ection mask .
WARNING – Always opera te with two hands.
Observe the specifications of the acc essor y manufacturer!
Prot ect the accessories from gr ease and physical imp act.
Acc essories must be stored and handled with c are in accor-
dance with the manuf acturer’s ins tructions. The workpiece
must be sea ted firmly and be secured against slipping,
e.g. using clamps. Large workpiec es must be supported
adequately .
If acc essories with threaded inserts are used, the end of the
spindle may not touch the b ase of the hole on the grinding
tool. Make sur e that the thread in the acc essor y is long
enough to acc ommodate the full length of the spindle. The
thread in the ac cessory must match the thre ad on the spin-
dle. See page 3 and chap ter 14. T echnical Specifications for
more information on the spindle length and thr ead.
Impurities that manage to ent er the machine
may block the switching mechanism. This is why , when the
machine is running, it is necessary to blow compr essed air
through the rear v entilation slot s of the machine regularly,
frequently and thoroughly . The machine must be held firm-
ly in this case.
Reduc e dust e xposure:
Some dust cre ated by using this power tool may
cont ain chemicals known to cause canc er , allergic
reaction, r espiratory disease, birth defect s or other repro-
ductive harm. Some examples of these chemic als are: Lead
from leadb ased paints, cryst alline silica from bricks and
cement and o ther masonry products, arsenic and chromi-
um from chemically- treated lumber , hard wood lik e oak or
beech, metals, asbes tos.
The risk from these exposures depends on how long you
or byst anders are being exposed. Do not let particles ent er
