Troubleshooting
Cannot play back Initialize only using the camcorder
- The card in the camcorder was initialized using a computer. Initialize the card with this camcorder (A 33).
Cannot record on this memory card
-Clips cannot be recorded on a 512 MB or smaller card. Use a recommended card (A 32).
Cannot trim the clip
-MP4 clips that were recorded or copied using other devices cannot be trimmed.
Charge the battery pack
- Battery pack is depleted. Charge the battery pack.
Check the memory card
- Cannot access the card. Check the card and make sure it is inserted correctly.
- A card error occurred. The camcorder cannot record or display the image. Try removing and reinserting the card, or
use a different card.
-You inserted a MultiMedia Card (MMC) into the camcorder. Use a compatible SD card (A 32).
- If after the message disappears, 6/7 appears in red, perform the following: Turn off the camcorder and remove and
reinsert the card. If 6/7 turns back to green you can resume recording/playback. If the problem persists, sav
e your
clips (A 113) and initialize the card (A 33).
File name error
- The folder and file numbers have reached their maximum value. Save your recordings (A 113), set >
[Recording Setup] > [MP4 Clip / Photo Numbering] to [Reset] and delete all the MP4 clips and photos (A 101) or
initialize the card (A 33).

May not be possible to record movies on this memory card
- You may not be able to record clips on an SD card without a S peed Class rating or with a rating lower than
recommended. To record clips with a resolution of 3840x2160 or using slow & fast motion recording, use an SD card
rated UHS Speed Class U3. To record other clips, use an SD card rated SD Speed Class 6* or 10, or UHS Speed Class
U1 or U3.
* Only for MP4 clips. Do not use to record XF-AVC clips.
M

-Close the card compartment cover after inserting a card.

Number of clips already at maximum
-The card selected for recording already contains the maximum number of XF-AVC clips (999 clips). Replace the card
or use the card in the other SD card slot.
- Cannot keep recording in dual recording mode because both cards reached the maximum number of XF-AVC clips.
Operation canceled
-Clips cannot be recorded because the control data is corrupted or an encoder error has occurred. (Control data
cannot be recovered with the camcorder.) Turn the camcorder off and the on again. Remove the cards and reinsert
them, or replace them with new cards. If the pr
oblem persists, consult a Canon Service Center.
- Corrupted file control information cannot be recovered. Cards or XF-AVC clips with corrupt file control information
cannot be read by Canon XF Utility.
Process terminated with error
- The card compartment cover was opened or an error occurred during the initialization of a card. Initialize the card
again. If the card still causes an error message, try replacing the card.
