NOTES
About using an EF-S lens: This camera’s sensor is larger than the sensor size for which EF-S
lenses are designed (APS-C). When using EF-S lenses with this camera, you may notice peripheral
illumination fall-off or vignetting. To prevent this, you can use the [Camera Setup] > [EF-S Lens]
setting to change the sensor area that is used for producing the image. This setting digitally
enlarges the image by a factor of approx. 1.48 so the image quality will deteriorate.
Depending on the lens's characteristics, the corners of the picture may seem darker due to light fall-
off or illumination drop. You can use the [Camera Setup] > [Periph.Illum.Corr.] setting to have the
camera compensate if it has the correction data available for the lens.
If you are using a compatible lens, you can use the [Camera Setup] > [Zoom-Iris Correct.] setting
to have the camera adjust the aperture while zooming.
Peripheral Illumination Correction
Depending on the characteristics of the lens used, the image around the corners of the picture may
seem darker due to light fall-off or peripheral illumination drop. If the camera has correction data
available for the EF lens used, it can apply this correction data to compensate as necessary.
1 Attach the lens you want to use.
2 Open the peripheral illumination correction screen.
[Camera Setup] > [Periph.Illum.Corr.]
If correction data is available, the lens model name will
appear on the screen.
If correction data is not available, [Periph.Illum.Corr.] will
appear grayed out. Visit your local Canon Web site and
check if there is correction data available for the lens you
are using. If so, download the necessary update package and upgrade the camera's firmware
following the instructions supplied therein.
3 Select [On] and then press the joystick.
As long as [Camera Setup] > [Periph.Illum.Corr.] is set to [On], the camera will automatically
apply the appropriate correction data.
NOTES
No correction will be applied in the following cases:
- When correction data is not available for the attached lens.
- When using non-Canon lenses. Even if the [Periph.Illum.Corr.] setting is available (not grayed out),
setting it to [Off] is recommended.
About lens correction data:
- The camera contains a register of correction data for most compatible lenses that were available
at the time the camera went on sale. Correction data for future lenses will be made available as
part of the regular updates released for the camera's firmware. For more details, visit your local
Canon Web site.
- Depending on the shooting conditions, noise may appear in the periphery of the image as a result
of the correction.
- The level of correction will be lower for lenses that cannot provide distance information.
- The level of correction will be lower the higher the gain setting used.
